Busse Combat: Lesson Learned

I ordered a knife from Busse Combat in November 2003. The estimated delivery for this special run of knives was 8-12 weeks. In January 2004 Busse Combat requested my credit card details for payment, which I provided. In March 2004 my credit card was charged by Busse Combat. After numerous emails and posting a question on the Busse Combat forum here, I have no knife and no expected delivery date for the knife.

I have been more than fair with Busse Combat giving them opportunity both privately and publicly to address my concerns about delivery of the knife and they have chosen to do neither. Further adding to my frustration, some people have received the exact same knife that I ordered back in early May 2004 as evidenced by posts on the Busse Combat forum. I was prepared to wait however long it took for Busse Combat to manufacture the knife but given that I have paid for the knife and Busse Combat has not sent me a knife or given me a delivery date, my patience has been tested for too long.

I would advise anyone to think twice before ordering a knife from Busse Combat in the future given how I have been treated. Their customer service on my behalf has been a disgrace. I have now cancelled my order and requested an immediate refund and will never consider another Busse Combat knife for future purchases. I will advise if or when the refund arrives.

If you have any trouble getting a refund from Busse contact your credit card company and let them know what happened. Tell them you would like to get the charge reversed.

Payment should never be asked for until a knife is ready to ship. Not supplying a knife for three months after taking payment is totally unacceptable in my opinion.

Keith,

Thanks for the advice. I'll see how I go with Busse first and if I have no reply I will certainly take it to my credit card company.

Have you attempted phone contact?

I know this may be expensive, and inconvenient for you, seeing you are from Australia, but personal contact usually makes all the difference.

Code 3,

I appreciate the suggestion. I have not tried phoning them. As you say, calling them would be at my expense and I don't really feel like throwing good money after bad.

I was able to order the knife and pay for the knife via email so I will continue to do the same.

As a business owner for many years, I know how things can get overlooked or lost in the shuffle from time to time. It happens to everyone. Jerry's a man you can trust and now that it's on his "desk", rest assured that it'll get resolved. He's a good man. As for the knife, you can also rest assured that it'll work as advertised. The longer I own my clip point Steel Heart variant, the more impressed I am with it. One of the very few knives that I'll never sell. Busse knives are great.

Concur on the quality of Busse knives, and Jerry will make things right. Things do occassionally get mixed up, but as an outfit Busse Combat/Swamp Rat has been a joy to deal with. There are one or two I might rate equally, but none higher.

I agree 100% with Keith - good thing you paid by credit card. You've gone though enough hassle and just want to get away from this purchase - very understandable. Jerry can "make it right" by issuing a prompt refund.

I'm not sure why make it right needed to be put in quotations, since I've yet to hear a refusal to refund, but oh well. Let's see what happens...

Guys,

I have never questioned the integrity of Busse as a company. I wish that I never had to post this thread. As I have said I have tried to resolve this situation for the past three months but to no avail. If anything Busse customer service needs a restructure. It's just not good business for a customer to have to post a complaint in a public forum before action is taken to address the problem. I am glad that Mr Busse has offered to resolve the situation personally but it saddens me that it had to come to this.

Anyway, I have now emailed Mr Busse directly.

I have received an email from Mr Busse and Busse Combat customer service stating that my money has been refunded. Hopefully, the money will come through in a day or two.

Mr Busse did also offer an apology.

All i can say without sounding too offensive is that you just missed the chance to get some outstanding knifes.

I don t have the budget for Busse, i try Swamp Rats instead, but what i have read about Busse Combat and Jerry Busse on boards all over the world and from many friends makes me type this.

I would have been more patient, just because its worth it ;)

I know it will not make you feel any better but I have heard sooo many of these same kinds of stories relating to Busse taking your money and the customer not seeing his knife for a very unreasonabley long time. I have one friend who waited amost a whole year to get his knives but his credit card was charged VERY FAST! :barf: :barf:

Now I buy Randalls when I can find and afford them!!

This is very upsetting. Busse Combat is supposed to be one of the gold standards of the industry. I noticed that Jerry Busse personally has replied to your post. Please keep us informed of the outcome.

Busse makes great knives that are very much in demand. I can understand them being behind in their deliveries, but I do think Busse should give more realistic delivery dates.

Upon order it is fine to ask for a deposit, but I am of the opinion that the balance should not be asked for until the knife is ready to ship.

I just recently took delivery of my new SFNO, the new blade series, and when I placed my order I was told that it would be 8-12 weeks and that my card would be billed when the knife was ready to be shipped, not before. I actually got my knife before I realized that my card was charged. I think that this is the new standard practice at Busse since the new line was introduced. I am confident that things will work out.

Cerberus.

Update:

It is now Friday afternoon in this part of the world and I am still waiting to receive my refund. Nothing showing against my credit card unfortunately.

This all sounds great. Did you get the knife in the stated 8-12 week time period?
