Busse Combat: Lesson Learned

Update:

It is now Friday afternoon in this part of the world and I am still waiting to receive my refund. Nothing showing against my credit card unfortunately.

Syme6079,

I will be more than happy to send you a copy of our records that will prove to you that your credit was issued within 1 business day of your request for a credit being made. Also, we have copies of every email that you sent to us as well as our response to every one of your emails. You may not have received our responses on your end, but they were sent and not returned to us on this end. It may very well be that your spam filter caught them and did not allow them to get through to you. I really have no idea what might have happened.

Busse Combat no longer bills credit cards unless we are within days of shipping. A very small number of customers who ordered "NICK"s became an unfortunate exception to this rule as we lost the first batch of 150 blades to manufacturing difficulties. A very small number of people were charged, (less than 5 percent of those who ordered) before the "cupped" grinds were caught on final inspection. It was a very minor flaw in the bevel grind but was enough for us to scrap the entire batch and start over. Sadly, your order was part of the group that was charged. We did not anticipate that the second batch would be so long in the making. It was again very unfortunate and we probably should have handled it differently on this end.

Due to this unforseen mishap, and to avoid any future mishaps, credit cards will no longer be charged until after final inspection and the blade is sitting in the shipping room ready to go.

I think we have done everything possible to apologize to you for the problem.

I again offer my apologies for any difficulty that this may have caused you,

Jerry Busse

This all sounds great. Did you get the knife in the stated 8-12 week time period?

I'd say it's a safe bet, since they only started taking orders 12 weeks ago. ;)

I'm one of the "N.I.C.K." people. I was buying the knife in November.., and I think Busse was figuring that, if there were enough people wanting it, we'd get it in Spring.

The company took my money in March, and one person had gotten a knife in, I think April..., so a bunch of us would get our knives too, and the people have wondered about this a couple times in the forum, and there were NOTHING about where or what or anything.

Now Busse says
"Busse Combat no longer bills credit cards unless we are within days of shipping. I can wait for some more time, *IF* I can hear that's something going on. In the BladeForum's Busse forum, I hadn't hear anything about anything slowing downed..., only that someone had gotten his knife, but that I'd lost my money almost 4 months back, but no knife.

I can understand (sort of) that Busse doesn't want to email each person of the problem with the knife (although Busse said "A very small number of people were charged, (less than 5 percent of those who ordered)", so I think Busse COULD email each of that 5 percent people). But I think that Busse (or one of his people) could have taken *1 minute* to have taken a "Reply of Thread" in Busse's own forum here when several people were wondering what was no knife, for months, when our money was gone.

"It was again very unfortunate and we probably should have handled it differently on this end." - Jerry Busse

I hate to quote myself, but as you can see, I agree with you Kirk. We blew it. It won't happen again. We're sending out a little something extra to you "5 percenters" who have waited so patiently to make up for our "dropping of the ball".

It will be cool!

Keith, sorry I missed your question last night. t1 has it though, it arrived in the alotted amount of time. I can check my CC statement and verify, but I think it got to me in 10 weeks from the time I ordered. Great stuff BTW!

Jerry,

I"m not yelling TOO hard, of course :p , and.., even though I *LIKE* free stuff, I'm not needing the "It will be cool!" stuff (Oh, geez..., I'm trying SO hard not to saying "WOW, WOW, WOW, FREE STUFF!!!)

Honestly, though, I wanted to notice that things really CAN make people happier, if we know what's going on.

Mr Busse,

Please do not think that I do not believe that the refund is on the way. I am merely keeping everyone informed of my situation. As it stands the refund has still not hit my account yet but as has been pointed out, this may take several days.

I agree with Kirk a simple explanation on the Busse forum would have been sufficient to keep people happy.

To put this to bed:

It is now Tuesday here in sunny Sydney town and I have received my refund from Busse Combat. I will say that Jerry Busse is a man of his word. He has done exactly as I requested.

I think that it is just too bad that the people around him have let him down in this instance. If only Busse Combat customer service had been up to the task things may have been different.

Mr Busse has stated that they have learnt from this experience and promised changes which are now in place. A very good thing. Anyway, time to move on. I am now looking at a Murray Carter knife to take the place of the Busse Combat knife that wasn't meant to be.
