Great and informative thread, thanks for your time.

I only have 3 Busse's,the only one I bought from Busse is a Custom Shop..So I can't add to the thread..

DSSF was

Regular price on this model is $292.00

You can order one, all by itself, for $267.00 (Ganzaa price).

Can new (assuming they don't buy a membership right away) members search these days? Otherwise this won't help newbs a lot unless it gets stickied. I'm happy to add to BusseCollector. It helps me to get submissions from others if something's missing. I did recently get one from Dan, before this thread started.

If you want this thread to be substantially better than BusseCollector you will add the price breakdown for all the options available on each model. I've been wanting to do that.

I think you need to differentiate between show special prices and regular retail prices ? Some that travel to the Blade show may get a little better price and I do not think it would be accurate to post that as the retail price.

Just my .02

+1

Also, just a friendly piece of advice to those who feel original prices may have an affect on what happens to a model's value once it's out of production. They really don't. Value is a matter of several factors including original price, time since the model was produced, number produced while in production, general acceptance/popularity of a model, etc. I paid $467 for CG NMFBM's almost three years ago, and would not sell one now for less than $100 more than that, because I'd expect to pay $100 more if I wanted to buy one today. At the same time, there are models I've sold for less than I paid, due to more supply in the market than demand at the time. Prices are based on what a willing buyer will pay and what a willing seller will take, and often you can't assume both parties to a sale are well-informed.

Asserting that a price on an out-of-production Busse is too high just because it's more than the original sale price is not a very compelling negotiating point, IMO. Try waiting for a straight-handled Battle Mistress to come on the market for its original price of $347. At the same time, prices for the SHBM in 2007-early 2008 were significantly higher than they are now, after the general downturn in the economy.

Guys I totally agree and well said! I have added some more verbiage to the beginning that I hope addresses the issue. Also, I will make sure to mention and label show/Ganzaa/hog pricing when I can.

Hopefully there will be continued constructive discussion on these points in this thread that people (newcomers and oldtimers alike) can read to learn even more about the nuances of this hobby/passion.

It's actually pretty interest seeing how some current models are selling for more, and some less despite rarity. This has been a cool learning experience.

Wouldn't it be easier to just send the info to both sites bussecollector and hogcults and have them update their webpage. You know they do have an email address so you can send them info so they can update that sort of stuff.

I know, but this will hopefully be a good resource for the new guys who may not know about those sites. I'd also like to eventually put up a "recently sold for" price with date to further help us all out.

BTW, can you help me out with original pricing on the Meaners? :D ;)

Thank you all for the help so far!!!!!

Very nice thanks. It's a very good thing for an european Busse addict. Why? Because here sometimes resellers make their own prices, doing whatever they want. A good price for us in Europe is the price you should pay here in dollars, but for us in euro. For example a knife sold here in US 200$, sold there in EU 200€ is a good price for European customers (shipping and taxes...) . So with a base price (I allready knew TheBusseCollector) we are able to make an idea...

Thank you again...

Hey, Will, where did you get those numbers? I saw prices a bit higher :

Hi BL,

Notice in the ad you linked to that the printed price is referenced as “Retail”. As far as I know, Basics were the only Busses originally intended to be mass-marketed through dealers, so citing a higher “MSRP” than the expected sale price was part of the marketing approach. Here is a scan of a sales brochure I received from Busse back in the late 1990’s (98 I think) with prices written in by hand (came that way from Busse). The price written in for the Basic 5 was the price I paid to order the knife direct from Busse ($156) (and no, the Basic 9 for $228 wasn't satin--it was coated):

When Jerry was experimenting with marketing strategies in the 90’s, he often quoted a retail price in print and then discounted that for sale under a variety of marketing plans. For example, in the original Steel Heart ad below (early 1990's), notice the Retail price of $375 and then “Your Dealer Price” of $187:

This is carried forward in today’s show pricing strategy, where quoted internet/ganzaa prices are typically higher than “verbal” offerings/specials at shows, as David Brown cautions in his post above. Of course, it costs the typical buyer a lot more to go to a show (travel/lodging/time) than it costs to order via the net, so “special” Busse show pricing is an additional incentive to bring people to shows.
