What's going on with Busse Combat? I was just over at their website, and EVERY single knife in their catalog says "No longer available." Did they go out of business?

No, system of orders changed recently, you must subscribe to their newsletter and you will receive their current offers to your email,,,, it seem to me, like they do one model only at a time untill sold out, than introduce another.... The sooner you place order the better price apply, this happens quite frequently, maybe on weekly basis....(if this helps)

Nope. Not even close. They are making a killing. It is basically what bladedude said. Subscribe to the newsletter. They are putting new stuff out all the time. Their battle grade stuff is amazingly priced. I picked up a TG-Battle Grade for like $270.

Seriously. The battle grade offerings make it seem ridiculous to send hundreds of dollars to a dubious company with knives of unknown source and/or materials. Wonder where DUK got the idea to name their new knife "Mistress"?

No, just changing available model I suppose, and getting geared up for Blade Show.

They had been doing something they called 'Operation 2 Weeks' for the almost the past year.

Essentially, every Wednesday, (no subscription to newsletter required, they'd announce it in their subforum) they'd introduce one or typically two new blades for sale until they ran out of however many they had ready(ish).

Here's a thread that gives a bit of a breakdown.

it's only a problem, when you find you want a knife that they only had available for two weeks. Then you have to to to the secondary market, where the real money is charged.

It's a non availability marketing tactics.... I was never fond of these (grab quickly or burn in hell tactics), also I think not exactly cheap knife you paid couple of hundreds for, coming without sheath is something I am not fond of at all...

If the knife is really tested and good, why not to keep making it? I prefer rather well established manufacturers, who have their knives permanently and clearly displayed in transparent catalogue or website with price and all description and their knives comes as complete product, ready to be used with sheath...I like only couple of their designs, but for their price tags I have other more favourite options to go with and what is more important - they will have knives for me, when I will be ready to buy, not the other way around.Only my opinion, no offence taken

Exactly. Would it kill them to at least offer their blades with a simple kydex sheath? Kinda lame that you gotta hunt down a sheath for a brand new knife.

I fully agree with you. For me forking out such a money for blade without sheath is just no-go.Its same to me like buying half finished blade for couple of hundreds, but as I said, no offence taken, just personal opinion.

I'm in the market for a Busse, and the lack of sheath is actually a plus for me. I enjoy making sheaths for my own knives.

Hmm. That seems odd. So let's contrast this with DUK. At least with Busse you know where they are made, who makes them, and what they are made of. Can't say that about DUK. And with the Battle grade line, the price difference isn't that much.....

I'm on the fence about the sheath issue. I love a good sheath. Unfortunately so many excellent knives are ruined for me by a crappy sheath. At least with Busse I know I am going to get a good sheath. Yes, I will have to buy it or have it made but it will be done the way I choose.

They make great stuff. I have bought and sold many but I despise their sales model and it has deterred me from making purchases the last couple years. With that being said I may scoop up a B13 LOL

I prefer to make my own sheaths as well as I know exactly what I like for my use. The battle grade blades have been great buys with good designs and from a well known and tested company.

Here are a couple of the sheaths I've made lately.

Regarding to sheaths and Busse;

There is many many great kydex / leather craftmans out there. A sheath is as unique to a knife as it is to a person. I find my greatest knives are those I like to carry the most. A proper sheath is important and the need differ from user to user. I think Jerry understood that, kept the price as low as possible, with that saving, he let you choose how you want to carry your Busse Knife.

Thanks Boss!

I prefer to get the exact type and style of sheath that I want or to make my own so a great knife with a sheath that I don't like makes no sense to me. Many are frustrated by the Busse way of selling things. IMO if they sold things the way many would like they would have a three year waiting period to get anything like Dozier, Randall etc. and never have the time to introduce many new models. But I do get that it is frustrating.

I just started making kydex sheaths for my busse blades. Need to try my hand at leather. Which ones are you trying to find?

After owning countless fixed blades I can say with a fair amount of confidence, the majority of sheaths you get with your new blade stink. They are an after though for most makers and it show. I'd rather just pay to have one properly made for my knife. Once Blade Show is over, O2W will be back in full effect.
