Busse Combat

Answering posts on a thread and answering emails are two VERY different things. Especially as he has a full time job and a whole Busse forum to moderate. Also interested in where Jerry lied. An honest misunderstanding such as happened here with his use of the phrase "kick out" is not lying. Least not in the normal world.

In an email I received on 11/30/02 Mr Fratello informed me that the knife was to be completed in 4-6 months.

4-6 months from 11/30/02 would mean the knife should have been completed somewhere between 3/31/03 and 5/31/03. If you tell a man you were going to hold his money for 6 months maximum and then hold it for 7+ months and counting, that is not honest dealings.

There's such a thing as extenuating circumstances. In case you forgot, our country went to war, and Mr. Busse was helping our soldiers. I know you're all pissy helping your friend, or at least what you think is helping, but how about you let him talk for himself.

Jerry is a great man and he makes a great knife and Im learning to be patient however if the knife is indeed started I would just like a picture.

What's wrong with sticking up for your friends?

I very much like Jerry and his knives, but there has been a reoccurring theme to threads posted about his missed delivery times. Over and over I read about people that have been given a delivery date, that date is missed, another delivery date is given, that one is also missed and so on. This often continues until the customer threatens to cancel the order. At that time they are told that the knife is just being finished and will be on its way in the next few days. It seems that at times it takes the threat of a cancelled order to for a customer to get their knife.

Without doubt Jerry is very busy, but when you constantly miss your given delivery dates, maybe you should change them from six months to a year. The most common reason that overly optimistic delivery dates are given is that companies and makers are afraid that if they give a realistic date that many people will not be willing to wait that long and will decide not to order a knife.

If deposits are taken, delivery dates should be met. By taking a deposit, Busse is entering into a contract. They should uphold their end of the deal.

Once again, please let me point out that I have no axe to grind with Jerry or Busse. Busse is one of the few companies that I think make knives that can be compared with the better customs. All I am saying is that when you miss delivery times as often as Busse does, then those delivery times should be adjusted.

Leo:

Very sorry to hear about your sitiuation. Unfortunately this has been a problem for custom (and in some cases regular) orders from Jerry. This is just my opinion (but based upon prior experience with Jerry and company) and it goes to prior to the forums and extensive use of e-mail. I would have to admit that there have been problems with completion of orders as well as modified ETA's for some blades in the past, as well as obviously now. I would second the opinion of some other posters that I seriously doubt that your sitiuation is an attempt at intentional theft on the part of Jerry. I would call into question the current status of the original rep who gave you the original ETA of your blade (and you might ask Jerry about that). Please keep in mind that although Jerry has had a number of different personell as well as (what I recall) sales team systems, the responsibility does ultimately fall onto his shoulders and I have always observed him to accept responsibility for his company. Lastly I would say that when all is completed with your transaction (and if you are still dissatisfied in some regard) that Jerry may very well make this up to you in some other manner.

May all be satisfied with the conclusion,

Stuart

What's wrong with this idea for a policy - "Accept an order and when they are ready to work on your knife, then you send the deposit."

It's not like the maker is buying some expensive and unusual material soley for your knife, therefore, why the need for a deposit for something that is months and months away from starting production on it?

Current status? It would be nice to know after all this time if this has been resolved and hopfully to a satisfactory conclusion.

I also gave my credit card information to Mr. Fratello via email.

I hope this works out well for both parties.

But, don't send a credit card number by email, unless the email is encrypted. Email is sent across the net in clear text and can be archived at any server it passes through. If some techie somewhere along the line is reading the email that passes through his server, your credit card number could be snatched pretty easily.

Jerry just informed me that the knife is finished and all is well. Jerry is a man of his word. I found out he was just extremely busy. There was nothing shady going on. Moderators can delete this thread now. Thanks to all those who were concerned I really appreciate it.

All the Best!

Very well then. Such as I expected would most likely occur. If I recall correctly, there was some another individual who had been involved re: some of the promises of delivery/photo. In my experience with the factory, it's best to actually speak to one of the primary staff (actually at the factory) via tele and follow-up with that same person if necessary.

Enjoy the knife! ;)

All the best,

Stuart

Moderators can delete this thread now.

I guess it can't ever be posted enough times: the moderators don't delete anything from TGB&U (except spam). Everything posted here stays here, with its resolution or lack of resolution as the case may be, and can be found with a search at any time in the future. You don't have to save everything to your own hard drive for fear the moderators will delete it -- we won't.

I am glad to hear that all is well, as I had no doubt Jerry would come through. Now when you get it you'll have to add a pic to this thread Leo. :D I for one would love to see your long awaited blade. Congratulations!

John
