Busse craze?

Perhaps I am preaching to the choir...however, my Basic 9 has been with me through thick and thin. It was left outside in a heavy rain storm and suffered some rust spots. Then there was the time it got thrown over the side of my boat...lucky as heck to have found it again. I have opened cans of beans with the thing, chopped hardwoods and even butchered a few deer. At least ten people have tried to buy the thing off me. A friend of mine borrowed it and his buddies took turns throwing the knife into a tree. I was not amused. About ten years ago, I used the blade in a house demo project. No worries.

The knife just plain works, and works well. I have had it professionally sharpened but now I just use a cheap crock stick. The knife has seen a bunch of kitchen duty as well and it never complains. And yes, I have smacked the spine a few times to get through some pesky wood blocks. These days I do put some light oil on the knife after use. I have had it so long that I can't exactly remember what I paid for the thing. And yes, I was not too happy that it came sans a decent sheath!

Busse knives work well, feel good in the mit and while being quite costly, I think the warranty makes every penny worth it. These are just well built pieces of equipment that will work and work and keep working. Spend your hard earned dough and get something good. The investment is worth it in my estimation.

^^^sounds like my 9!

That damn thing has been everything from a jack handle to a tent stake, and it chops pretty darn well too. It holds an edge for a ridiculously long time. I literally chopped and cut an old refrigerator to pieces with it once just to see if I could. It got a couple of scuffs and a tiny rolled spot in the edge.

I was chopping up and digging out an old fence post with it once and I didn't know it was countersunk into the ground with concrete. I was straight chopping full force into concrete for at least 5 minutes. Barely dulled about an inch of it.

It is one of my most cherished blades. It's my dedicated chopper, the big knife of my big knife/small knife woods combo, and my SHTF blade.

I paid $100 for mine on a sale from a website called "discountknives.com" - long since defunct. They had 3 in stock at that price and I kick myself all the time for not buying all 3.

For me, the designs are perfect for their intended usage; the steel takes and holds an edge better than most; the edges are resistant to hard use issues like chipping and rolling; one of the best blade coatings that I have seen.

Getting a sheath can be /is a hassle but you get or make exactly what you want instead of potentially throwing one away.

I won't use one to carve a Christmas Goose at the table but I am certain that some one has.

It will be for a week or two until I can return to my home terminal to pick it up. So, that will just have to do. I am looking forward to it. ☺

If BUSSE was a craze it should have passed long ago. Jerry and team have been around 20+ years and Jerry had been part of the knife industry for 30+ years. I think they have established themselves as not merely being a craze.

I only own one Busse. A anorexic Basic 4 and it is a fine knife that is well designed, executed and my experience with INFI has been positive, so much so it started me questioning the use of higher carbide steels.

I think in the past there wasn't as much availability as there has been the last few years, and that caused a lot of grumpiness. For people who were paying attention, the last few years have been a tsunami of Infi in every size and shape you could ask for. Some have even been great bang for the buck. Busse bashing is a few years out of date.

Oh man, those TGLBs are looking good...

Darnit! I just got my tax refund and you guys are already tempting me to blow it!

So what would be be a good Busse to buy for the uninitiated? That battle Mistress has been calling my name for awhile now, but the Walking Dead knife is what I'm really thinking about going for someday lol.

If you are AT ALL tempted by the mighty mistress, buy one. I've had 2 of them and stupidly sold them. They are the quintessential chopper. As far as I remember, the Steel Heart was the knife Busse Combat was founded on. The Mistress is just like it, but longer.

If you are eyeballing the TGLB that is a great choice as well. In this situation you really can't go wrong. Just buy the one that speaks to you. Then beat the crap out of it! It will take all you can dish out and laugh in your face.

... the Walking Dead knife... lol.

I think the TGLB is a great looking knife, but this is the reason I wouldn't want to own one. Too much zombie baggage.
Very interested in a Basic 9 or some other large INFI chopper though....

We have a busse elmax steak knife that just won't get dull even though it's used almost every in the kitchen. Haven't done any hard use with that one but it holds a crazy edge. I have stropped it a few times.I have a busse infi knife as well that doesn't get used as much but it is my favorite fixed blade. Takes a really sharp edge and holds it and sharpens so easy, especially compared with elmax. I think the price is great for a knife that will outlive you.

I've got a bunch of Busse knives and can tell you that they perform as advertised and then some. While a couple are my cherished possessions and reside in a comfy safe - others get the daylights used out of them - including one of my favorites, my trusty old Basic #7 which has been around with me and performed many a task.

I've been into knives for so long that I think I can separate the wheat from the chafe and I am a Busse fan.

Um, no. That's one crazy rumor if I've ever heard one. Feel free to order from them at any time.

bussecombat.com

I think you may be thinking of Emerson's custom knives or something. You can go to the Busse, swamp rat, or scrap yard websites right this second and place an order.

Try it! I bet you'll be happy when you get the knife... No matter which one you choose.

Busse knife does look nice, but obviously overprice and most of them are just too thick behind the edge.

At the same amount of money you can have a better knife if you go custom route. And yes, I do have few Busse.

When I told my brothers that I paid $450.00 for a knife(tglb) they thought I was nuckin futz. I told them I know but how can you make someone understand the method to the madness?
