Busse FFBM vs Himalayan Imports 18" AK Chopping Video.

I wouldn't feel jaded at all if I were you, the Busses are the very best Bowie style choppers made period and they will out chop any other bowie style knife on the market. ;)

No, it's not fair comparing a kukri to a Bowie. But guys use a lot of hyperbole, saying the Mistresses "chop like axes" and such. . .fell for the hype I guess.

NOTHING will out chop a Khurki that even looks like a knife and I mean NOTHING, that's just the way it is.
Well. . . .unless you count the Giant Chitlangi Bowie as a Bowie style chopper. But then you're still talking a blade over two feet long and just over 4 pounds. . .

Again, the forging process takes care of that.
Fergusen's problem was probably a heat treat error making a brittle spot.

The way they do it, it's bound to happen.

Usually a modern controlled heat treat, like Busse and most other makers use, the more common problem is one coming out too soft.

Yes, exactly. :)

The HI's are hand forged and hand heat treated and tempered, they are really Custom knives in every way. All the work is done by hand and hammer.

Honestly, that's what has stopped me from buying a HI knife. I wouldn't buy performance anything made in a hut in India, I mean no offense by it but if you showed me a factory where my truck/gun/anything was made and it looked like the pics on the HI site, I would sell the item very quickly as I would never be able to trust the HT on a knife being swung very fast, sharpened very sharp. I would still love a 20 inch AK. To many, the whole barefoot kamis is part of the draw to the knife.. to me, it's a negative. Then again, I'm a modernist type of guy.

Trust me, you wouldn't be swinging a 20" AK that fast, well not for long anyway they weigh over 4 pounds. ;)

I might buy one if I like the zilla, I want to biggest/most ridiculous monster of a knife though. Which would that be?

My main issue with the knife are the handles and the sheath. I wonder if anyone has a 20 inch AK to make a sheath for, I'd probably want the knife rehandled as well. I hate traditional kukri handles.

The bottom in is if you made a 6 pound knife it would beat all others.
I think the best knife is the one that is a good chopper while being portable and compact enough

I'll bet there's somebody around here on the blade forum that could probably fix you up, with a sheath and the rehandle job.
You'd just have to ask around once you got the blade of your choosing. I wonder what the price is on one of those big choppers is anyway.

Well that's more than I thought they'd be being from India. But I guess that's not to bad considering all the steel in that blade. So if you had it rehandled and a sheath made, you would probably have over three bills in it easily.

At some point you DO need to carry a knife for it to be there when you need it ....

Rucksacks etc are OK ....but the most useful knife is one you would put on your belt or carry some other way on you .... the KZ comes in at 37-38 oz's and is more than heavy enough .... 30 oz is a good compromise .... 4 lb knives are truck knives IMO .... or just "fun" toys and would not be with you in the hills if on foot ....

Of the present range of khukri's the CS Carbon V re-handled is a good compromise ..... or the NMFBM .... for a top end chopper easily carryable ....

Those things dwarf the Mistress.

Yeah, I get a kick out of the W&SS forum guys complaining about Busse "sharpened prybars", and I point out that my primary woods blade (the 20" CAK, if you couldn't tell :p) makes my CGFBM my "light & fast" knife.

LOL
