Busse on a Budget

This sounds like the joke about the lady who sold her husbands Porche to a kid for $50.

I also smell a rat, but it could happen. I bought 2 (yes, 2) nice M1 carbines from a lady for $100 each. I told her that they were worth more, but she insisted that was all she wanted. Who am I to argue? :D

I have picked up things at yard sales that were this kind of deal. Got three mint condition Lie Nielson Planes for $5.00 each. There wasn't a price on them, and when I asked the lady she said $5.00 each...I told her they were worth more, but she didn't care. She said "Since my husband died, they been laying around gathering dust...somebody who appreciates them should get them". Those planes were worth $150.00 - $300.00 each. So I guess I could see how this could happen with knives as well.

If you aren't B.S.ing then that was an insane find. And that stuff happens. My story is that a contractor buddy calls me one day and asks if I want some wine. He said he was doing a demolition for a job and the woman wanted to get ride of all this wine her deceased husband had collected.

So I go over there and there are F’ing CASES of French Bordeaux. For example one was half case of 1921 d' Yequem:eek: :eek: :eek: . At the time they were worth about $1,500 a bottle. They are so rare that a friend that lives in Paris planned his trip to the U.S. around the time we were going to have a party and drink some. So yes truth is stranger than fiction.
 
dammit ive been looking for thoses knives a price like that. I gotta start waking up earlier on the weekends.
 
That is amazing. Thats one of the best yard sale scores I have ever seen. Good stuff mate.
 
if it was an estate type thing the guys kids or girlfriend might not have had a clue. I have bought more than one insane thing at a garage or estate sale myself. And besides that he is in TN after all - moonshine madness sales n all. I have family that have no clue what my little pockett knives sell for and when they hear a price I get the "no way" etc so I could almost believe him. After all there are no logo's etc to look up on those busse so an internet search is out and they look CHEAP to those who don't know... heck even the tags look "garage sale ish"
 
Sir, you are one lucky man! I always stop at yard sales, people don't know what they have, and usually after a husband dies, the missus wants to get rid of his stuff. Memories and all. I've picked up some great rifles and pistols for this very reason. Congrats.:thumbup:
 
Well Progunner called it first and called it correctly. And to his credit, Schuey2002 never gave into the fabrication, though I sensed he really and truly wanted to.

For those who sent offers, I actually paid a fair price for the set, and these knives won't be going anywhere soon.

For those who posted yard sale stories, thanks. You give me hope. I sometimes daydream of finding knives, firearms, Martin guitars, etc. at insane prices. Such dreams were behind my prank.

I started to just let it go and allow the myth to grow, but I had to own up. Confession is good for the soul. :thumbup:

If I'd let it go for another week, I wonder if I could have single-handedly upped early-morning attendance at yard sales nation-wide. :D
