Busse price justification

Ummm. I thought Busse knives were so expensive because the Culligan man actually delivers Blue Label to the shop daily.

If they weren't any good, would they sell for the prices they command right now?

This is called premium pricing: the practice of keeping the price of a product or service artificially high in order to encourage favorable perceptions among buyers. Toyota did this when they released the Tundra several years ago by intentionally pricing it above the Fords, Chevys and Dodges to create "premium" branding. Looks like Microtech, for example, does this as well. Busse, Toyota and Microtech back it up with excellent products, but I do think there is some image pricing going on too in each case. Its a marketing paradigm, which in Busse's case also includes hot, exceedingly friendly chicks here in the forum (one disappears and another shows up), pig names, and a very strong culture of comradery. Let's drink!

There is ton of psychology that goes into marketing, whether its Busse or anyone else. Consider the Sony Playstation 4. They just happen to release it 7 weeks before Christmas, and just happen to now have an extreme shortage of them to stir up the buying frenzy. Sound familiar? Same thing was done with the release of the Wii a few years ago, with the same release date, same artificial shortage and same buying frenzy. When you can't easily get a product, you magically want it 10x as much. Its human nature. Busse has an incredibly effective marketing apparatus going on, and good for them. But we can't pretend that guys are begging to pay $700 for a slab of sharpened steel simply because it holds an edge better than a Rat-7. Its the marketing machine, the comradery, the good vides, the hot chicks, the pig names, etc. - it all plays into why people will pay so much for a Busse. Its the whole package. Imagine if there were no Busse forum, no hot chicks or comradery or pig names, and Busses were available at every retailer. No "ganzas", no feedings frenzies, no nothing. Would Busse knives be what they are today? I'm thinking not, but that's just my opinion.

So that would leave us with just DRINKING? OK I'm in.....:D

That is all your opinion, and you are entitled to it.
No offense to you or anyone else.

I for one do not buy it, and I do not feel I am that easily duped.

and here is a couple reasons why;

If they did not out perform every knife out there, why does no one & I mean no one step up to the challenge of a live performance test ? It has been many years and the challenge is still going UN-challenged ?

I have personally put several Busse's, Swamp Rat, & Scrapyard to the test and they have come through with flying colors, even surprised me with what they could do..

Jerry Busse and his hand selected crew take care of his customers, whether you own one or several they take very good care of everyone, better than any other knife maker I have ever met.
Now I know several knife makers, from one man shops to actual companies and some have excellent customer service and are very nice and supportive. But every year at Blade Busse takes care of us.
If you have a problem with any knife you are taken care of period, Toyota and Playstation does not do that.

When it comes to the Military, They do a lot behind the scenes that no ones knows of because he never toots his own horn, Jerry gives because he is that way.

for these and several other reasons my hard earned, very hard earned money go to Busse, Swamp Rat, and Scrapyard.

No hype, just great knives, great service and great people

Nicely Stated Mr. Brown............You gave me Goose Bumps and that is no easy task~!

SO Dave your saying you dont agree the chicks are hot? LMAO.

He got that part right in my opinion :D

DB, Your making good points (and you make great sheaths), but your statement is not a counter point to what Powernoodle said. You're both describing an efficient company with efficient marketing. Simply because Busse's knives are right at the top, doesn't mean they can't also have effective marketing, in addition to great customer service and a top warranty. There is plenty of hype, and Busse backs it up with a great product, thus expanding the hype and producing more great product

... Kind of like ...

Jerry's "Let's drink" is simply bringing more knife knuts to his company's level.

While I agree with Dave on almost all points, powernoodle hit many valid points as well. There is no denying that Jerry is a marketing genius as well as everything we know and believe him to be as a knife maker. To say there is no hype would be denying the obvious. There is a frenzy with each announcement, let alone what we hear from the shows. Hype does not equate BS, but it is a tool for marketing. Anyhow, we who believe in Jerry, Busse Combat and INFI do so for more than one reason. I have drank the kool-aid, the hype has been substantiated, we love drinking, comradery, hot chicks and uncontestedly (new word) the toughest knives made.

Thank you David and mymind. Great posts.
The Proof of the pudding is in the "testing" and Jerry makes some of the best pudding in Knifeland.

All I can say is I've bought some pretty darn expensive tools and toys in my time.
NOT one of them, other than my Busse's come with a "Go ahead, Beat it. Beat it as hard as you like for as long as ya like! If ya break it we'll fix it or replace it FREE!!" warranty.
My first Busse was purchased on faith and perception, my others with conviction and satisfaction.

Now gimme my INFI EggNog! :D
Where is that Santa Gaanza anyway?!?!? :)
