Busse sale system

I still don't understand the Busse sale model... they sold tons of knives in a a short period (op 2 weeks) during which I didn't have much money and now that I do have money there are pretty no models for sale

Wouldn't it be great if knives were released at a regular intervals (like one a month or every two month)

At least I could plan ahead with the cash situation

Yeah it can be frustrating especially because of some of the crazy aftermarket prices

Their business model is similiar to small batch whiskey. It's quite ingenious actually. You only make a knife for so long or introduce a new model periodically then retire it. This system creates hype for the new product and makes it more desireable. Busse consumers have an almost, fanatical aspect to them.

While I understand your concerns and frustration, their system works for them and has brought them success.
I'm guessing once, if ever, their business model stops working then they'll change it. However, I hope their current one is sustainable.

RMJ started off like Busse, now look at them. All RMJ products are now mass produced by machines in order to increase profits. Gone are the days of the all handmade Shrikes.

Anyways I digress.

With the Success of O2W Busse has all the orders they need. The Internet is the New and Improved way of reaching more customers! When they get caught up and it is feasible for them (Busse) more models will be introduced! After Blade sometime I would guess!

As a relative newcomer to the quality of Busse I agree that it can be frustrating learning their system...not to mention the language lol. There's a lot of acronyms for the names of their blades, but there are great threads on this forum to help explain all that. Also the controlled realeases help keep the resell market high which is great once you do score some blades and are ready to pass them on later on. Now I like the controlled releases and have fun with it. At the end of the day knives are suposed to be fun right!?!

A release of a blade it sort of like a tornado. it does not happen often, but When it does happen its going to be on CNN. its like a feeding frenzy. Be patient, its close to time for another one to be released. OP2W is getting closer and closer to catching up with the orders and we are closing in on the last blades released. It wont be long now. Hold on to your hat when it does, it gets expensive quick. INFI is the most addictive substance on the planet, be careful. Once you touch it, your hooked for life.

I have bought a few knives through Busse, but most often, I will can the exchange on Bladeforums. It takes some time sometimes to get what you want, but then again, it's almost like a treasure hunt, and it is cool when you finally get the blade you are chasing.

It's great that their buisness model works great for them... but a buisness only works as long as enough people buy their products.
When it comes to hard use high quality knives Busse used to be only one. Now we have options: Survive! Knives, CPK and others.
I find myself buying more other brands now since the timing with Busse can be complicated

Bingo, when Busse was in it's childhood they were the only ones making such knives let alone actively marketing them based on real world performance. Now it has become an entire market of itself, with many other makers demonstrating what their blades are capable of.

Nothing wrong with other great blades in the market, it's a win win for knife aficionados like most of us here! I personally have all Busse knives with the exception of a Dan Keffeler.

I think OP2W was a great model. It got tons of new blades out while also helping control the secondary market some. The prices there have come down from what they were before.

Hate to say it, but the wait for new Busses isn't as long as a lot of custom makers. And while I wait, I've jumped into custom folders. I've learned a lot about patience since I started buying custom knives and collecting Tax Stamps!

Who can fathom the grand schemes that spring from the mind of a mad genius like Jerry Busse? When there seems to be no conventional model to compare with his marketing techniques, all we're left with is watching his ongoing parade of stellar successes in awe.

With the exception of a few models, many of the knives on the exchange are being sold at or below cost. It's a great time to be a secondary market buyer for Busse knives!

Hmm maybe prices have just risen then? I remember getting my sjtac and B11 for around 250, and I don't see much in that size in infi for that price

Agreed! I've sold quite a few OP2W blades in the exchange and only asked for cost plus shipping. Not trying to make money on em, just learned that I like satin so all my coated ones went up

Many who have tried to move O2W knives shortly after release have had to take less than they paid, but as time goes by I wager we'll see the rarity of the individual O2W models begin to show in the form of higher prices. Busse models always have some lag time after a model is discontinued, before shrinking supply feels the upward price pressure of growing demand. That time lag is typically proportional to the length of time the model was on the market before it was discontinued, and the O2W models have had some of the shortest market availability times--and smallest overall numbers produced--of any in Busse's history.

The wait on a Busse is nothing compared to Survive, you may have the option, but you probably don't have the knife! Plus Busse does not require Full payment Until your knife is actually ready to ship! Neither Does Dan Keffeler or Nathan Carother's (with the exception of a recent order on Light Choppers)
Nathan Carother's knives are UNBELIEVEABLE, I like them ALOT-I have nothing but Praise for him and his work-He also Builds and sharpens the Vast Majority of knives he offers
Dan Keffeler's Products are also Incredible, the Sasquatch is my Favorite Large Chopper, there is however a waiting period on his knives as he is a One Man Shop! Busse has all the orders they need at the moment and consequently no new models are being introduced or offered

What I'm saying is that I would buy more Busse knives if they were offered more regularly
