Busse Spoonin'

Lovin that hook knife! Been wanting one for a while now. This winter I'm going to have to look into one, do you have a brand suggestion?

Nice leather as well, you have a talent there. :D

Wow those are some nice wooden spoons! I've tried to make one, and have a scar to prove it! Didn't come out well, eventually turned into a spork.

Spoonalishous.... Haha nice work! I only spoon with them makes my wife jealous :D

Thanks KniferMan, lol

That is really cool. Dont think i have the patience for that.

Garth

Thanks Garth!

 Thanks for the advice!

You're most welcome!

Thanks Dwayne, that means a lot coming from you! :)

I only have experience with this Eric Frost Mora hook knife, it's been very good for the money, fairly easy to sharpen, and holds a decent edge. I know a Busse hook knife would be much better, maybe in Elmax?:D

Chicks dig scars! And hey, I'm sure there are plenty of people that have tried to make a spork and failed, lol

Thanks!

New to me knife, so I had to make a spoon today. Anyone else do any carving or bushcraft this weekend?

Nice work, nice SAR5 too!

I messed around with another one, just to see if this Sar3 was going to be a keeper or not. It's a pretty decent little blade. I do badly need to get a hook knife though,,,

Thanks Trukreltrog, same to you! That's some hard work digging that bowl out with a straight blade. Well done!

I started carving a little canoe out of a timber by the fire for my son, but I used a Hinderer XM-18, just happened to stumble into this thread. I need to get one of those hook knives to hollow it out!

I ordered a hook and sloyd knife from Del Stubbs at Pinewood Forge, should be here tomorrow. I've been using a Flexcut Pocket Jack, I think it'll be a huge step up. He quoted a 4-8 week timeframe when I ordered them and is well within that.

That sounds cool! I'd sure like to see pics when you get it done!

The hook knives make a huge difference, they are well worth the money.

That is awesome craftsmanship! I wish I could make a spoon out of wood! I would just end up with the same unchanged piece of wood and lots of splinters :D

I would love to see that when you receive it, if you wouldn't mind posting pics. Do you have any pics of your spoons?

Thank you Pokey! I'd hate to hear you ended up with splinters, maybe we can find you some splinter proof gloves so you can give it a try, :) lol

Hey that place looks familiar. :)

It's a lot of fun for sure...when you don't go too thin like I did after putting all that hard work into it.

Yes, but I used a GB Mini, a Mora, And a spoon knife from DWV, so I'm not sure if I should post pic's, because it isn't Busse related? I'm not sure if I should have chimed in(I just came across this thread), and I love seeing peoples carvings. BTW, good job on the spoons!

Welcome Vaughn, I've never know this forum to be anything but friendly. I would love to see your spoons!

Thanks for the welcoming and the opportunity to share some carvings with you all!!

I just carved this from an Apple Tree branch last Thur. so it's still green/drying and needs a little cleaning up and then oiling, but here it is... hope you like it!?

So much good info here!! :D

I need to look up the episode number, but there is an episode of The Woodwrights Shop that focused on spoon making. The big fellow used some really nice tools and some really old techniques. Made some really nice wares as well. That was my introduction to the uses of the hook knife, and the use of a hatchet to rough out the thing. Quite the nice hatchet as well.

EDIT To Add!!! Found the episode I saw back then!!! http://video.pbs.org/video/2172740518/
