Busse versus Tops?

Found out the Street Scalpel you are interested in is made from 1095 now, so the site needs to be changed to reflect that.

Have you used that, or seen one. It looks like a precision cutter, which is what the name suggests, however in the survival camping video Hood makes a statement like "This is what I reach for when I want to brutalize something." (paraphrase), which paints a different picture.

Ok, Hood's comment make sense now, I wish more people would list stock thickness. That's isn't much of a scalpel.

I just checked the TOPS site, stock thickness is listed at 1/4". I checked one out a while ago, too heavy for neck carry for me, but I only like the lightest knives for that use.
I think it is designed moire as a spike, for punching holes in things rather than precision cutting, or any cutting in fact. Very obtuse primary grind. Even with a Puukko grind it would still be obtuse. it is about ~8x too narrow to run a full flat grind with that thickness and be a precision cutter.

Hey All. This is my first post, so excuse me if I am covering old ground. I am considering a real heavy use camp knife that would also work in a self defense role. Something in the 5-7 inch fixed blade, + or - 1/4 inch thick, micarta. I've come down to Busse and Tops as ones that should fit this role. What is the group's opinion? Are there some others I have overlooked? Which model specifically?

Well, Busses are better, but TOPS are about almost as good and cost half as much. Kind of a tradeoff.

I thoroughly dig the design of the TOPS B.E.S.T. I'd like it even more if it came in the standard 1095 steel. Regardless, a very usable-looking design. And, attractive, to boot
