Busse vs. cardboard ?

O.K. Kimo,

1. Busse did have an awsome booth at blade (imo) one of the best. I think RAT beat them just because of the girls and the give aways.( my son won an RC-3 )

2. What does beeing new to an internet forum have ANYTHING to do with knowing how to run a business?????? It's good business to continually try and improve your product. Plain and simple.

3. Who told you I have never held a Busse? I think there one of the most comfortable blades I have held. Hence why I was looking for one.

4. I never claimed to be an expert on anything especialy Busse knives. I was just asking a question about an observation I made and it turned into a huge deal. I can't imagine if I had posted this in the Busse forum. You guys seem to really get defensive about the knives.

5. Some of the last posts pretty much answered my question. I never knew how hard cardboard was on knives. The only reason I even used the Busse knives as an example is because I was thinking of buying one.

Hope this clears up any confusion Kimo.

no problem. your question was answered in the first couple posts. you kept being skeptical.

some posters don't even own a busse, real expert opinions.

you handled them. then you like or not. buy or don't.

as far as being defensive, just calling it as i see it. recently alot of posters are posting busse related questions in the general knife section (to get non biased opinions). nothing wrong. i do think you'd get better advice in the busse subforum. like i said in an earlier post, alot of good hogs were trying to tell you it was a non issue.

So I thought I would post this here for a more unbiased opinion. I have fallen prey to all the Busse / INFI hype and have been dying to get my hands on a NFBM but I keep reading all these for sale posts that say something like " New never used mint just minor wear from factory cardboard sheath." " minor marks from cardboard sheath other than that mint" ??????????? Supposed to be one of the most bad a$$ knives on the market ........... can cut through a steel chain........ baton a lead pipe .......... JUST DON'T LET IT TOUCH CARDBOARD! .........W.....T......F...? Please some one fill me in. I really like the Busse line but I would be pissed if I paid $700.00 for a knife and the damn cardboard it came in scratched the blade.

It's not so much that carboard can scratch but if there happens to be grit or dirt in the cardboard that will scratch the knife. It's like kydex sheath marks. Kydex in and of itself can't really hurt the steel. But dust and dirt that get's in there can scratch a blade. One partical of sand can make a nice scratch along a blade. If you could have a sterile piece of cardboard I'm sure it wouldn't do anything to steel. But since these things are wrapped at Busse and I'm sure there is steel dust floating around all over that place. Your chances of getting a piece of carboard with some crap on it is is likely. Rest east. Carboard is not much of a challenge for INFI. If you intend to buy it and never use it and leave it looking brand new, just choose your purchase wisely. If you plan to use it, knives get scratched. No way to avoid it.

Maybe they got the knives right (minus the coating)

You'd be hard pressed to find a more durable coating than Busse uses. Have you ever actually used a coated Busse knife for hard use? That coating is very tough to wear off. Very tough.

That's fine. And I'm not ripping on Busse per sé. It's just as the OP said. Something they COULD improve. No company is perfect they should however be striving to be so in what they do.

Cool... But should I take it that you're ripping on me with that crack about my text being in large and odd lettering?;)

They do, and they have. These pre-made cardboard blade sheaths that Busse buys for their knives now are a huge step up from the old method of using cut up boxes to wrap their knife blades in. I would imagine that if they found a newer, better product to use for this purpose that costs roughly the same, they would indeed make the switch.

I've had Many MANY Busse knives. I NEVER Noticed anything with the cardboard effecting the coating. I have seen it make it smooth out a TINY BIT. But it's not really noticeable. Also sometimes debris can get in the cardboard sheath and do more damage.

And like someone posted above, It's mentioned in the sales incase you want it for a safe queen. Busse and Strider, and LOTS of others are purpose driven blades meant to be used. But since they are so expensive they are great for Safe queens too. Busse and Striders F&F Sucks in reality. Not the Edges or anything having to do with the function. But the Stamping is Crooked a lot. the coating( Witch will come off anyway if used) Is thicker in some spots. Those knives are like Armored Hummers or Abrams Tanks. They might not have the shiny paint job, but do what they where meant to do and then some.

busse are shipped to use. cardboard has resins .it can mar many finishes.edge holding@ strength are what most of users desire .

Busse vs. cardboard? Busse wins, every single time.

We had a bonfire over the weekend and we had a ton of those long cardboard boxes that bulk fluorescent tubes come in- from a big construction project my Dad has on his property. These were the heavy duty boxes with the egg-crate packing and everything in them. We needed to break the boxes down so that they would fit in the fire- so out came my FBMLE. I proceeded to effortlessly chop the boxes into sections- like chopping carrots. Several of the folks at the party were just staring, jaws dropped. "WHOCK WHOCK WHOCK WHOCK!" Every chop a clean cut, all the way through. I cut up about 20 or 30 of these big boxes, into about 5 sections each. Each cut just as clean as the last. When I finished, I shaved some of the hair off of my forearm for effect. Superb performance, any way you look at it. This was with the stock edge, that I've never touched since I got the knife. It's still razor sharp.
