Busse vs Mad Dog

OK, I know this is a somewhat controversial topic, but I'd really like to know how the Steel Heart E for instance compares against the ATAK. High tech steel vs high grade tool steel. Howz the chopping compare; how many million pieces of rope can each cut before touchup is required; how easy to resharpen each; handle comfort yada, yada, yada.
I think these 2 knives fit the same niche in the using catagory and just want to hear from somebody that has either tested them, or ownes both of them.
Thanks,
Lenny

Lenny, Lenny, Lenny. Somewhat controversial? LMAO!

And in defense of O1 tool steel, I would like to remind folks that it is the way McClung heat treats that causes them problems.

The search wouldn't produce practically any results.

DOH!
Nevermind.
OK, I learned my lesson.
I'll do the search thing.
I was all set to buy an ATAK right before I discovered the Busse's.
Thank God I did.

Strider,
Check out the Individual FS Forum.
There's a MD ATAK there right now.
For more info, check out:

And please let's not turn this into a MD vs Busse war.
They're both exceptional blades.

Strider; here are some pics of Mad Dogs:

Hey Walt- In the picture on the top which is the knife model on the bottom of the picture ? (Looks like the blade is a hair under 5")

Thank you, Donald.

The knife to which you refer, nowhere fast, is the Mini Shrike. The Shrike is at the top of the lower pic, with the same Mini Shrike just below it.

Hope this helps. Walt

One thing for certain. You WILL not break a Busse Combat Grade knife. Try it.

Steve Harvey:

I could break a Busse.

I have broken two blades by McClung and both Busse Combat blades I have took far greater stress than what reduced McClungs blades to pieces (I think six for the second one).

Furthermore the warrenty on Busse Combat's blades covers and and all major damage sustained during use. McClungs warrenty covers what he wants it to cover which is not rigerously defined.

In addition, Kevin McClung is still inspecting the second blade I broke about 2 years ago and has of yet still not returned neither the blade nor the money I paided for it.

So while yes, both blades can be broken, it takes far greater effort on one that it does on the other, and even more critical the makers have vastly different attitudes about coverage of damage during use.
