Busse vs Mora for Tomato Slicing Contest?

Hey guys, I can't find the tweezers on my NMFBM, guess I'll use my SAK to baton with instead because Busse is worthless. Sorry, my sarcasm is hostile tonight......

It's like someone trying to convince me their hi-point is better than my H&K cause it goes bang when they pull the trigger......

Used my finger nail clippers to cut down a tree, but for some reason it took longer than when I cut down an equally sized tree with my chainsaw. Odd that the same chainsaw didn't do a very good job on my fingernails.......
That is a pretty funny comparison. :)

Each specific job has a blade best suited for that job, while a heavy thick sharp knife can, in the majority of situations be used to do the job of a short thin blade, the short thin blade will never be able to stand up to the rigors of Big Knife work.

I have seen people use the Original one of three hundred Old Straight Battle Mistresses for all manner of cooking use in camp, I have also listened to people demean that effort verbally.

However, the fella just kept on doing the job that he was given, that of Peeling some dozens of potatoes, turns out, practice with a Big Knife means that you too can make do pretty comfortably, while those without, can only look on with envy while you also casually use that Big Knife for Big Knife Jobs.

In my Kitchen, I have Murray Carter knives for slicing Veggies, I also have a Thin N.I.C.K.

I do not take them into the Field, I do on the other hand have a B.A.D. and a Snakeskin Anorexic Badger, if it looks like my Basic#3 or SHSHII needs a little help.

I also have Moras, I give them away pretty commonly, I want people using knives in the field, a Mora is a fine knife for the price, a very good knife to learn with.

I still intend to peel potatoes with a Steel Heart or a Mistress or a Sasquatch because I want to keep my skills up, I can also use a big Knife to clean small game, to notch sticks for a trap.

You do not practice to build a fire for when the sky is clear and the wood is Dry, you do it so as to be able to dig a hole and make a fire in the snow if need be.

Practice those Skills that you want to have, those skills that you want your Children to have.

I have a big axe that will chop an Magnum bear Cubs in half

Don't be so sure about that, I hear those bear cubs run in packs in Utah :)
That Axe fights one he fights em all !!!

Wish I could find the Cliff Stamp thread from years ago, where he shows how one can use a Mora to baton a cut log.

I live 110 miles from Mora, do i have mora knives? of course i do, but what knives do i use? BUSSE for slicing, cutting, whacking and batoning all day long :) WHY?? Because i can and they are awsome good looking knives!!!

On another forum I was talking about the insane quality/durability of Busse/kin in a discussion about the utility of Mora blades. Someone chimed in and said a Mora would beat Busse when it came to tomato slicing. Now to be fair we were talking about larger Busse's and the Mora 4" blades.

What are your thoughts? Could a larger Busse defeat a Mora in such a (useless) contest?

Thanks

Man...Can that guy can chop down a 12" diameter tree with his Mora as fast as I can with my ASHBM? I bet the answer is the same as if you were to ask him if his car is faster than my 2014 Nissan GTR Black Edition. Highly unlikely. LOL.

Here's a quick comparison between the MOAB and a Scrap Yard Elmax 340 slicing soft old little tomatoes. I gently honed them both on a 600 grit diamond stone followed up with a polish on a smooth butcher's steel before filming this video. Enjoy!

LOL rob cracks me up. "What I'm trying to say is, if your sward's sharp you can cut through anything" :). Great vid as always rob   !!!

Whichever one has been ground to slice will win? Edge angle and shoulder. Blade thickness. Anyone? I normally use my sos nmfbm for cherry maters anywhoo.

Rob,

Thanks for the video! The MOAB did much better slicing than I expected. For those who don't know, the MOAB is about .35-.40" thick compared to the SY Elmax 340 at .095".

Maybe I NEED a MOAB for the kitchen, since it can handle anything from small tomatoes to watermelons! ;)
