Hello evyrone. I really dont want to start a war but in the near future I want to buy a super hard use military looking knife. I know I sound like a mall ninja, I dont even think I ll use it that hard, I just want to buy it for my own pleausure of owning it and possibly want the best I can afford. Not a long time ago I read here that S30V and S35VN used in CRK Green Berete and Pacific aret good for hard use because of chipping and could break if not used correctly. I see Spartan Blades also use S30V but everyone says they re very good. I heard all posivetes on Busse and their Infi steel and I m interested in TGLB. I also heard about Esee and their bulletproof warranty and that Busse has it too. I know there are also Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard under Busse and that there is also Randal but I m not interested in those. I want to hear your opinions on these companies and which do you think is better and why. I ll probably go with TGLB when I ll have the money but I still want to do my homework and I think it will be an interesting discussion.
I apologise for my English and I wish happy Easter to everyone that celebrates it.
Thank you.
Edit: You may add Ka-Bar and BKT to discussion as well or any other hard use fixed knives. But yes I m more interested in those three.

If you are thinking Busse then you are already going in the right direction because they really do back their products 100% and they are what Busse says they are and will do what Busse says they will do. That said with that warranty the knives better really be as good as they as they are and the good thing is they really are.

EESE, well they are good knives in a simple spring steel that is 1095, same steel you can get in knives ranging from $2 to thousands depending on the maker and the actual knife... They are OK, they are serviceable and the warranty is pretty good and they are priced in the lower range so if one is more budget minded then they will work fine. In the end nothing really special or even different about them that can't be had in a lot of other knives in 1095. They have built a good customer base over the years so that says something. Again, nothing really special at all about the knives or the steel that is a simple low cost spring steel that is used in lawnmower blades. A lot of hype surrounding the heat treatment of their 1095 and that's all complete utter BS and marketing because there are no special heat treatments of 1095 that are magic. 1095 is 1095, and is still 1095 in the end and having it heat treated correctly is not a big deal at all. I can provide links to Professional Heat treating Companies and phone numbers and they will tell you that very same thing.

Ka-Bar, well I carried a USMC Ka-Bar for 4 years when I was in the USMC (82-86) and it worked fine for what I needed it for.

If you can afford a Busse, go for it. Esee, spartan, Becker and so many others all make a great knife but you'll always be left wanting a Busse if you already got the bug. And if you don't like it you can sell it and get your money back.

I recently purchased a Spartan Enyo and absolutely love it, plan to buy a phrike and harsey model two in the near future. The. y are great guys to deal with, customer service is outstanding. But I have also been eyeballing the Busse TGLB. ESEE makes great knives but I don't think they are apples to apples with the other two brands in question but I own one and have used it a good bit with no complaints*

Busse, Swamprat, Scrapyard are made by the same "family" in the same factory. They are all top of the line for performance, warranty, etc.

Infi is a great steel for hard use. Scrapyard and Swamprat now are mostly using Sr101, which is a fantastic steel for hard use. It is not stainless, and needs a bit more care than infi. I own both steels.

If you are hesitant to pay out for a Busse, don't hesitate to grab a swamprat or a scrapyard.

I have an ESEE 5 and it's great, tough and all. ESEEs are good knives. But I just received my Busse TGLb Friday and wow! It's worth every penny really great knife! It blows ESEE outta the water. I used it a bit this weekend on a few branches and what not. It's a really good knife. If you can swing it its a good choice I'd say. But if you want something cheaper then the ESEE will do great for you also. I also like the Becker BK series and they are cheaper then ESEE and just as good.

But I'd go Busse if you can.

Any opinions on hard use military knives with S30V or S35VN like CRK Green Berete, CRK Pacific, Spartan Blades and CPM 3V? As I said I read that S30V is not good for that kind of use.

I've been looking for a reason to hammer my TGLB into the driveway, so now is as a good a time as any.

Well I have been on the fence about getting one of these for a while, thanks for costing me 400$ haha

110% Correct

I've tested MANY blades--Busse lives up to the Hype and then some---and you can resell them quick and usually for more than you paid

Cypress... you nearly made me ruin my laptop. I had just taken a big sip of coffee and choked on it while trying not to spit it out on the screen and keyboard when I saw those pics.

Great... now I want a Busse on top of all the other knives on my list. Hinderer Flashpoint, Spartan Phrike, Grayman Suenami, BJK Tac-Ops 4, BRK Springbok, Fallkniven A1, ESEE-3, and now a Busse Mean Street. And eventually getting something custom made for myself.

And that, gents, is why Busse is the best. You can fearlessly do what other people joke about using a knife for.

...and when you're done, your knife will glance at you mockingly and say, "That it? That's all you got?"

Cypress just had a little stubborn sap at the end of his blade and thats the easiest way to clean a Busse.
If you want to keep the cost down, ESEE and Fallkniven make great products for the price.

Cypress is a LEGEND......

Some people just look for an excuse to pound INFI into pavement.

I can't comment on most of what you said, but it's probably correct. ESEE makes a great knife at a fair price, but to call the warranty "pretty good"? If you send ESEE a Junglas in two pieces, tell Jeff you got bored and cut it in half with a torch, he will send you a brand new one. That's about the BEST warranty I've ever seen. If another company can beat that, I'd like to hear the details.

TGLB. You can get other knives that work fine, but if you need to have that warm "indestructible military style" feeling, that's the way to go. Busse is the best overbuilt knife brand. Spartan is made by/for military guys who want a good hard-use knife but are willing to sacrifice some indestructability for lighter weight.

Dear Cypress,
That may have been the nail in the coffin of me getting one of these and though my wallet hates you I'm glad you shared.

Cheers,
Adam
