Hey All.
I was wondering how Busse can offer a Lifetime Warranty on knives they don't make anymore ?.
Like the old Straight handle stuff.
I like to use them and what will happen if I damage one.
Do they replace it with newer Stuff?
I sure hope not.

Might have to ask Jerry or Amy on that one. :)

I know they are warrantied for life, but call just to be sure about the details.

Thats a great question that I always wondered about. Even though I couldn't see anyone breaking a Busse. Maybe they give you shop credit.

I dont think I will damage one as well but it does make me a little hesitant to use them. But I like to, Thats why I got them. But I also tend to use other knives more because of the Question.

this comes up from time to time.

IIRC you'll get shop credit (at the purchase price of the item when it was new) for things they no longer have (NICKs, etc) or can no longer do (snake skin slabs, etc)...

but, apparently, there are many older knives they can still do or still have blanks for... I know I've seen new SHBMs come out of the custom shop in recent years.

still, though, call the shop with any specific questions.

This was brought up a few weeks ago. The company will repair it, or replace the knife for its original selling price, not its current market value.

So, if your going to use it hard just don't hurt it beyond repair. :p

If anyone has seen my SHe use/abuse pics will know that I am not really worried about damaging my knife beyond repair.

That sucks, because I think the Battle Mistress was like 250 new, badger attack 200, steelheart 250.
Now i dont think I will be using them. oh well.
You cant get anything Busse to replace them at those prices.

I think they will replace it with something similar if it can't be fixed but please don't use my quote on that. But I wouldn't worry about it, if you use it the a knife for what it was intended for, you won't have any problems with any Busse. But the older stuff was mostly hand ground by Jerry himself and are highly collectible, so unless you love the use of them more so then the more current stuff, then you may want to save them. That's just my two cents!

I don't think I'm strong enough to hurt my FFBM,aside from beating it with a 16 lb sledge.

They're not made out of glass! The original straight handle Busse's are the toughest of the family. Your NOT going to break one.

Edges are fixable, coatings are repairable, handles are replaceable. You have to literally use extreme methods to take one beyond its working limits, if your planning to chop steel or bricks, take a sledgehammer to it, or bend it repeatedly.

If you bought collectors items then NO dont use them. If you bought knives to use them then by all means use them as was intended.

yeah that would blow if that were the case, they don't make new ones of the old ones on a regular basis. They will only replace with credit, yet the 2nd'ary market is driven by their business model, and that has driven the price up ridiculously on their best blade designs. The credit on the original price wouldn't even get you a current model at the asking price. So how would one get a TRUE replacement on an older model.

I think this "Lifetime Warranty" definition is wrong. I'm pretty sure they have said "We'll take care of you" in all cases? Have I been mis reading this forum for the last year.....?

Absolutely great advice, I treat them like a knife only for their intended purpose. Very Cool.I feel way better about that.I really don't think anything I would do to them would be a problem then. I for sure did not buy them to just put in a safe.but it is tricky because they are collectible.
Thanks

The biggest thing is just don't chop concrete, rocks, steel or use them as cold chisels and you will be fine.

If your afraid to use them or scratch them up, I'm sure you could trade them for users around here. :)

Here's a couple of them.

I would definatly "NOT" go tearing those up. They look to be pristine. And they are very...very nice i might add.

I'd love to have that Battle Mistress for sure. They do have a few scratches now that i look them over closer. But still very nice. ;)

Do you really think Busse should be expected to make a Custom Shop SHBA or SHBM in the event someone were to trash theirs? Or give that customer current market value? That is an unreasonable point of view. Jerry is not responsible for the secondary market price on these knives, and it's rather doubtful that he planned or expected the prices to go up as much as they have. They will take care of you, but they never promised to replace an irreplaceable knife.
