I first heard about the accident in, I believe, late August or early September of last year. Has anyone heard how he's doing lately? Must have been worse than first reported if Jerry is still on the mend. Hope all goes well and there's word soon on how his recovery is going.

I didn't think Jerry actually ground any of the knives was I mistaken? How involved is he in the work?

-Cliff

Jerry ground his custom knives, which naturally severely affected the production of the custom Battle Mistresses. He is finally regaining use of his arm, but at SHOT you could tell he was still in a lot of pain.

The limited edition Battle Mistresses are indeed done by Jerry.

The production knives, like the Steel Heart, Badger Attack, and others aren't.

The upcoming Busse Basics line is an example of his production knives. The limited Battle Mistresses aren't.

Spark,
Are you are including both the "Collector's Grade" and the "Combat Grade" Battle Mistresses in your term "limited edition Battle Mistresses"???

Secondly, Does anyone have any comments comparing, or just about, the Badger Attack or Mean Street knives as general purpose utility, whittling, hiking, camping, or hunting knives?

How about if it is to be carried in conjuntion with a Battle Mistress (when the one I ordered last year arrives)?

I was expecting to wait anyway and did not know Jerry had been injured. What type of machine?....I want to make sure I stay away from those.
Donald.

I would think that it was the Collectors grade Battle Mistresses but I could very well be wrong.

I'll call Jerry on Monday and find out which one's for sure.

In reference to your other comment, I haven't gone out and used those knives, but I just finished photographing the entire Busse Basics line, and I'd have to say that the Basic's # 3, 5, and 7 are great knives, ergonomics and sheath wise. With the modified INFI, they should hold up very very well.

This should go in a forum other than the custom one, but....
I like the #7 so much that I plan on buying one for myself, and I wish I'd had one in the military. The #9 is huge and great, and would be perfect on your rucksack, but is a bit too big for wearing on LBE. On second thought, cancel that. It will work just fine on your thigh, but I personally feel that it's a bit large for delicate common tasks. It'd be perfect for clearing firing lanes, chopping tent stakes, and other heavy duty field tasks, but for lighter duty stuff, I'm not too sure. The Basic #'s 5 and 7 are phenomenal and can be worn daily, especially with the modified sheaths.

Gadget,

I ordered a Battle Mistress at about the same time as you (mid-March)..., and got about the same estimate in delivery time (16-20 weeks).

I, too, hope he's being honest about the wait. After being told I'd have to wait a month for a Mad Dog ATAK... and, only now, after *four* months, is the knife supposed to be in the mail to me...., well, I've had enough frustration for now

Being the proud owner of 2 Busse knives, I can tell you that the wait was longer than first promised. But Jerry is really nice and helpfull, and also very busy. They may be late, but worth the wait!

I own and I can say Im proud owner of BBM.

I am unimpressed that Lynn T failed to mention Jerry's injury when he trashed Busse for the difficulty in obtaining a BM.(See CS homepage)
I like CS knives, but I wish someone else made them.
(Can't afford a BM)

I cut it, and I cut it, and it's STILL too short!

I am sorry to hear Jerry was injured of course, but the fact remains that is no excuse for the unexplained wait time. If Jerry's injury is what is behind the delay then his customers should be notified. Lynn should not have to explain it, it should be common knowledge from Busse. If I order a knife that is a substantial amount of money, I do not think it is out of line for me to expect to be kept up to date on how it is going. I understand that deadlines can be missed. I have run over a few myself. But in each case I notified the people involved and resubmitted the time estimation.

If I order from a dealer and he gives me a time quote. Then I expect to be notified if there is a change in plans for whatever reason. I do not expect to have to chase after him myself. And if I have to, I will only do it once.

Came home form getting my drivers licsence today and boy was I excited. I was then getting ready to take my first solo ride over to my friends house when I looked out the door to see the UPS man. Running out to get the knifesized box I saw it had Busse on it.

I then hurried inside and split the box open. Un wrapping the paper I found my INFI BM and SH in their kydex sheaths--the new designs.

The designs are wonderful. They look much like the Maddogs (as they were reported to be)and are rock solid. They are made of thick kydex expertly formed with tight steel rivets and a drain hole. Tehy haeve the standard dual retention not to mention a belt loop that can be unclipped from the actual sheath by s huge sturdy buckle so that one doesnt't have to undo their belt. also the leag strap is thick webbing that can easily be fastened around the leg by its plastic buckle.

The actual knifes are works of art. Theyhave a great fit and finish. My only problem with them ist he coating is not on the steel rifht by the handle. Teh kandle I might add is newly textured I belive for a no slip grip. The extension on the handle bottoms wouldn't pich the fingers I don't belive as the handle s ave plenty of room although I do have small hands. teh hanldes also have a nice natural contour to them and are secred by tight screw that look Like they could easily be removed for fitting of a different material.

The actual baldes are wonderful. They come with the sharpest edges I have ever held except for my Reeve project one. The coating is nicely done and is pure black without a single flaw. The SH is slighly balde heavy to help it chop better with its samller blade size. The Bm battles beatifully, the best of any knife I have ever handled although that is not too many. The choils are nice but the wide baldes make it a little uncomfortable to use them.

The flat grinds are excellent and combined with the wide blades make for a knife that just feels unbelievably tough. I don't think I could break these if I tried.

Along with the knives came an explanation for there lateness. The rivet went in his left palm and out his lower wrist. He is now grinding blades primarily with one hand though as he did not stop work to recover it hasn't healed to quickly. Also the knife came with a coupon for 30 dollars off my next hand made purchase which will be a MS. The coupon can not be used for the BAsics.

If you have any questions please feel fre to ask them. A review will be hard to come by though as I live in an area with little wilderness to work with.

take care

My Steel Heart came late last week. Still getting a first impression, but the first impression from myself and others on first seeing and holding the Busse was, "HOLY SH!T!" G great solid blade, the proverbial sharpened crowbar, and it feels, in the words of our friend, Aubrey, "It's like a `Hummer' in your hand!" The sheath really is solid, great, and versatile. I'll agree that the finish is missing from where the handles receive their final profiling. The handles have a new grooving cut into the scales. In a conversation with Jerry, he said they tried several configurations for the grooves, but decided the short vertical rendition worked better. It allowed a good grip in fore and aft motion, and during chopping motions but assures that any shifting in the hand during chopping doesn't cause undue irritation or abrasion. I mountain bike alot and the club is involved in a number of trail work days that I'm dying to take the Busse out and clear some serious singletrack. I'll write up a review similar to the one on my Rinaldi TKK when I get a chance to run it through its paces more.
My initial impression is the Busse is a super tough, sharp and sturdy work knife, meant to take abuse and dish it out with equal aplomb. (Hey, I just used the word "aplomb" in a sentence.

) A great piece of work!

Hey Guys,

Im glad you are starting to get in your Busse knives. However, these are not custom knives. Spark has already asked you to move this to another forum. As we are not speaking of Jerry's custom work.

Please feel free to start another thread concerning Jerry's custom knives.
