Busses NOT expensive: Am I the only one?

Busse's seem inexpensive after $160 tank of gas:eek:. I have a 38 gallon tank:o

Busse is worth every penny and they run a great business. So isn't a BK. I have several. Great value knife. So isn't a Busse.

I got no dog in this fight.

The only knife that's a genuine rip-off is a Hinderer because the company does not give a crap and promotes this bogus "we only sell to qualified people" nonsense to inflate demand for an overrated knife.

they are expensive and I dont think Ill ever own one. What can a 500.00 Busse do that a 150.00 Junglas cant?? sorry, 500.00 only gets you a 4" knife :D

Not a single one of my current Busse cost $500. KZII, B11, MUCK, CABS, BAD, SarQ.

1095 is a great basic steel. ESSE makes a great knife. Many own both (and Beckers, and Etc Etc Etc....)

I could list a few things the Junglas can't do, that a "$500" Busse can.......but I don't want to turn this into a Busse Vs. Everyone contest.

Buy what you like. Use what you like. Carry what you like.

I'm sorry, but I could not let this comment pass.

1. We don't trash other makers here. Period.

2. You happen to be wrong. I have bought three XM18, directly from Rick, and I am certainly no one special nor qualified.

Demand and desirablility is created by the market. If the market thinks a knife is over rated, then the market drops.

For me Busse knives are expensive and I can't afford to buy one on a whim but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to pay for them when I do have the money and find a model I'm interested in. I rarely buy things to resell later on unless I need the money so the aftermarket value is mostly a non issue for me but the fact that Busse's retain their value for the most part is a big bonus.

Personally, i love Busse kin although i cant always afford them. I have a couple and wouLd love to and actually plan to buy more. My views are if i spend that much money on a knife, i better be able to use it. Being a public servant, and on a budget, several models suit my needs but some i just daggone WANT! Expensive is a relative term $300-500 for a knife is expensive to me but nothing to someone else. Saying its an investment is great if you dont use it and i dont plan on ever selling mine but i know with Busse i will get my moneys worth. I also have beckers which i really like. Buy what ya like and be happy with so you can get YOUR moneys worth out of.

Amen! 38 gallon tank here on a 3/4 ton suburban with 8.1 in it. :(

I have friends that cant believe what i am willing to spend on a knife or gun, but then they are so willing to drop 200 bucks on dinner and drinks on a saturday night. I say i can make dinner at home and drink a 12 pack for 20 bucks and spend the difference on a knife!

I love Busse knives, but simply can't afford one. That's the only reason a Becker is next on my list, and, for me, I couldn't beat on a Busse, I'd put it on the wall in front of my bed so it's the first thing I see in the morning. I can't help but see them as works of art.

Busse knives are expensive for most people: many of them cost a full months rent in a one bedroom apartment. 'Expensive' is relative to your income. The less disposable income you have, the more expensive they appear, especially for those living paycheck to paycheck with a lot of debt.

I have paired back to a select few, and none of them are thin slicers. None of them are thin compact slicers because busse doesn't really make such things (1/8" with sub .020" thick edge), even those that might qualify have choils which disqualifies them for 'compact' in my book. Busse doesn't make them because the steel as hardened at 58rc isn't designed for ultra thin edges. It does okay, but it's floppy, and does what it's designed to do.

And thats the thing: INFI is a designer steel. It meets a particular set of criteria wherein it can claim to be the absolute best. It is maleable at high hardness, has excellent corrosion resistance for a non-stainless, high strength, a stable temper at high heat, and is easy to sharpen. At this set (combined, not individually) it is the best.

The best costs more money than 'good enough'.

That 'Best' has a real world use, one that Busse Combat excels at better than any other brand. It outpeforms others when you need to be able to trust your knife when your doing stupid sh-- with it.

Theres all kinds of reasons for doing that, despite a knife being a 'knife' and 'not a prybar'. You might have bullets coming at your face, you might be in a burning car, you have spent 3 days in the woods only eating berrys and your hands are really shakey and weak. Chances are your not going to use your tools carefully or precisely under those kinds of stress. Your going to punch holes in brick, bash windows, dig up roots in rocky soil, things that are guaranteed to mangle your edge or break the knife entirely.

In this regard, Busse outperforms. Because trust in a knifes ability to hold it's form when you need it is only as strong as the evidence of what that knife can actually take in real world use and abuse.

Busse's are expensive, anybody that says their not, has enough money not to feel the sting... that being said, for a "one" knife they are worth it... and if I had more money I would have a few more...

DAGNAMMIT, i LIKE the way you guys think.

I beat on my knives more than anyone i personally know. I have not broke any yet.

I love Busse blades. Maybe one day i will own one. Lord knows i want to. :D

Yeah they're expensive. But it makes me feel good knowing I own the best and they can take anything I can throw at them.

You are well out of line with that comment as it has nothing to do with Busse, this thread or this forum........Go and make that post on the Hinderer forum, that is where it belongs.

Well said..........+1 for me!

We do not insult other knifemakers here, PERIOD.

BTW, your statement about Rick Hinderer, his company, and his products qualify as being pretty darn libelous, in my opinion...

Well... I think the Limited Editions are very very expensive and I do not buy them anymore, nor will I again I don't think - I do not see the value they bring from a USER standpoint. Now from a beauty and collectors standpoint, yes the LEs may be worth it, but I do not collect so YMMV. I will not pay $200 to $300+ extra for satin and a convex that I can do myself just not as pretty. This is just my opinion of course.

The Combat Grades, however, offer phenomenal knives for a more swallowable price - the CG Team Gemini Light Brigade is a friggin steal, as was the CG Boss Jack, CG BWM (maybe the best price to value Busse in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time) and CG TankBuster before it... Combat Grade is where its at, even though I still consider them a luxury. There are a few I will never ever sell.

With all that said, I haven't found a camp task that my $110 ESEE-6 couldn't handle, or my $30 Mora for that matter... ;)

I would personally LOVE to own a boss street or a sar 4 but odds of me ever having that much money to throw at a knife is slim to none so ill stick to looking at pictures until I win the lottery. To me they are expensive not saying they arent worth it just expensive.
