But it's the TNP edition

I used to like most of NutnFancy reviews I watched , long time ago . When he was less commercial .

I thought the POU was a useful notion .

Never agreed with everything he said , followed , or worshipped; but I thought he had some good ideas .

Whenever an "expert" reviewer starts to profit directly , I never really trust the information .

The knife itself looks fine if overpriced , like every sprint or exclusive , or celebrity endorsed version . :(:thumbsdown:

I stopped even clicking on Nuttin Fancy when I saw his review of the Spyderco Province. A big, well ground chunk of 4v steel from a company known for ergonomics? Obviously it’s not anything reliable. He then explained his concept of “first cool/second cool” and after power washing my melted brain off the carpet I bought the Spyderco. I can honestly say it’s been one of the best fixed blade outdoor knife I’ve ever had. Screams through wood, the design allows you to get up close for detail work, and the handle is plenty comfortable for most tasks.

As for his review, the reason I even looked for an opinion on YouTube is that Spyderco is mainly known for folders, so I had no reference point for a big camp knife from them. TNP would have had you think that the Spyderco was worthless for anything other than fondling at the dinner table.

Same reason I watch Shabbazz, getting a clear hands on size comparison is helpful regardless of their opinion of the knife.

You each identified s35v as fantastic. I don't have anything in this steel, seems I should look to try it out.

I don't know about "fantastic" but it's usually decent. Versus S30V, you might lose a little in edge retention but you'll gain as much in both toughness and corrosion resistance. Of course, a lot depends on the heat treatment.

In the average mass-produced knife coming out of China, S35VN should be a noticeable upgrade over 8Cr13Mov, AUS-8, Chinese D2, etc. However, it probably won't meet expectations based on S35VN's reputation. This has also been true of M390 on similar knives. It's not necessarily bad and it can be good depending on the price or what's available in a design you like. It's just not as good as it could be.

To put this into perspective, consider 9Cr18Mov. With an average heat treatment, it's already an underrated budget steel. However, WE gives it an exceptional heat treatment. It's like what Bos does for the edge retention of Buck's 420HC but from a much better starting point. It's available in Civivi and Sencut knives that usually cost $40-60. In cut testing at 15dps versus cardboard, the performance for multiple samples of those knives was pretty close to that of knives in S35VN that cost 2-3 times as much.

I stopped watching TNP many years ago when the Delica 4 was released with steel liners. He posted a video complaining about the .005 ounces or whatever the liners added. If anything this kind of makes me wonder about Spyderco. I get collaborating with custom makers and designers for sprint runs or new models. Why a collaboration with a jack ass YouTuber?

Hmmm... ever try a high hollow grind on a FFG Endura? That might have an interesting result . . .

Oh yes, please try it.

I've had pretty good luck with my Chinese-made S35VN knives, but the stuff that I've actually used for awhile is all in WE or Kizer knives, plus a Rike, and I guess one lightly used Tuya. But my Crux, Falcon, Buc, Velox2, Corto, Mistral, they have all shown pretty good edge retention to me. I dunno about the manufacturers that aren't as established and legitimate.

His followers will be more likely to pay the price , and Spyderco believes there's enough of them to make it worth their while .

A lot of talk about Chinese knives and S35VN. Aren't these made in Seki Japan? Is the steel going from Crucible to Seki via China? I assume the blades are cut and heat treated somewhere near Seki. Alternatively, it wouldn't be all that surprising if the blades are being made/heat treated in the same location as the S35vn Resilience/Tenacious blades, then shipped to the Seki factory? Does anybody know?

Man, whats with all the hate?
The guy has brought a lot of people to the hobby and influenced who knows how many others to do YouTube gear channels. I think the majority of the videos of his that I've seen are def worth a watch and better than many other YouTube knife reviews. Hes got his quirks like everyone else but overall I think he's got pretty good taste in knives and gives some in depth, mostly entertaining content on a ton of different knives.
It seems like for people who supposedly can't stand the guy some of yall are mentioning some pretty specific aspects of his videos, but anyway..I prob wouldn't buy a 170 dollar endura but no doubt they will sell a bunch considering the unique color pattern and steel choice. I'm not really into sprint run stuff but there are a lot of people who are.

140 dollars, but yeah I know what you mean. I don't have hatred in my heart for him or anything, but I stopped caring what he had to say long ago. I do credit him for helping fan some of my interest on guns and knives, so I'll always smile if I see a video of his, just won't take the time to watch it.

Some of it might be hate. I think a lot of it is just poking fun. My comments were in the latter camp. I used to watch his channel semi-regularly but it's been quite a while.

People who have issues with the knife have already laid them out. I don't have a strong opinion other than this one isn't for me.

Ditto for me, except change semi-regularly to half that... which I guess is semi-semi-regularly or ... quarter-regularly?

Like anything else, I pick and choose. Nutn has a bank of vids on somewhat older knives and older versions of knives where I learned to cool down on some knives and confirmed my stoke on other knives. I've received value from him net/net. I've watched this more than once and since it's been a while I will watch again soon. This is one of my favorite TNP vids, guess you have to schlep over to YT to see it, tried to link it here.

I've watched a lot of interviews. One thing I often notice that really helps to out an interviewer as having poor interpersonal and/or interviewing skills, is the need to always cut in, and even to often preempt and anticipate what the interviewee is going to say. You can see in body language, and hear in tone when someone is less interested in learning about the topic the interviewee is discussing, and rather just waiting for his or her own turn to talk.

This video was nothing like that. Nutnfancy from the very start of the video demonstrated good active listening skills, by interjecting limited comments where appropriate, but not taking over, or outright interrupting. Laughing with restraint at jokes or funny comments, without needing to jump in with his own.

In short, I find bad interviewers try to compete with their subjects, and even try to outshine them. In this video, as far as I got, anyway (~8:30), Nutnfancy was simply excellent as an interviewer.

Yeah, he REALLY sold me on his Fällkniven A1 videos.

I'm not sure, but I think he actually baton-chopped and felled a whole tree with it, like 12-14 inch stemmed one..

😂
