BUYER BEWARE Fake Paramilitary 2

Wow, these fakes are getting impressive!

I noticed that the lettering on the "Spyderco" branding is a bit mushed together and bolder on the fake than on my real.

I do realize that this thread is a couple of years old, however i was just passed a "fake" PM2 in a trade here on the BF. I wanted to share some obvious differences beyond what has been said so far. The best part is the OP of this knife did not post pics for his sale, passing it on to an unsuspecting member who described it to me as "great condition, never carried only admired" i was not able to post pics of the box because it was shipped as is. When it was delivered, upon opening i knew right away that it was a "dud" first because of hack mark where blade meets tang. Next was the scales they felt either worn or sanded and the chamfered edges felt rounded. I reached out to a fellow member and Spydy guy for a second opinion, and he determined this as a fake once i showed pics of liners, there are several differences, the standoffs are not as thick and the milled out section of liners have different anlges/contours. If you look at jimping behind spydy hole on blade spine tgey are cut at a different angle, on clone they are straight on authentic PM2 they angle back. Depending on the attention this post gets i will continue to post pics on this "fake" PM2. Please do NOT ask who i received this from, as we have a verbal agreement that i would no mention his name. I strongly believe if you are passing fakes/clones you should be exposed, but in this case in my opinoin he was not aware of this being a total dud.
I was informed that he bought it here, i believe the original seller is to blame....ENJOY!!!
(AUTHENTIC DIGICAM s30v PM2 is on left----"fake" digicam s30v PM2 is on right)

I texted this thread to the guy i received this from, and i suggested he let other members know where he received it from. Hopefully he comments in this thread and you will get your answer as to what member this came from. My intenr was to add to innaccuracies on fakes. I understand you can google and get picks, but i think being "BLADEFORUMS" makes my point and pics way more valid. If one member was to either A) open up his/her PM2 B) look for that notch on blade and realize they have a fake or answered any doubt they had about their PM2 being authentic then my post was a sucess. Just an eye opener for other members, and a reminder to always ask for pics in sale/trade thread not relying on a description!!

This is why asking questions and posting clear, well lit, and focused pictures is so important.

Sadly Rev this was passed twice here on BF. But it will stop here, i was thinking i may "pass it around" but havent decided yet, dont want it to end up in the wrong hand.
Imo the 3 pics above were the most obvious tells for spotting a fake. But as we ALL know there are several other differences. The scales are smoother, the diameter of the torx screws is smaller and lanyard tube is different to name a few. I am in contact with the member i received it from and to this point he has been more than cooperative. Im hoping he posts where it came from. Thanks for your input Rev

You are not mentioning the most obvious tells for a fake PM2. No need to open it up at all. Jimping needs to be angled back towards your thumb. The lock disengagement needs to be smooth. Both scales need to milled. If your knife has these qualities it is a real PM2.

IMO, since this knife has been passed here on BFC several times, the source and members should be known. They should post their part of this mess here. Even if someone doesn't know they have a fake and passes it on, other members might not want to deal with them in the future. I think the exchange has a great rep for keeping counterfeits out. This situation and these members hurt this excellent reputation.

Cray thanks for commenting, i did mention that i did NOT have to open it to tell it was fake. I also mentioned the jimping angle (you see angle of jimp in my first pic)and there was also a few other tells right out of packaging that i mentioned(screw diameter & lanyard tube) and of course the hack mark in blade. The hack mark in blade was the first discrepency i noticed, followed by ergos. The member i bought it from was forwarded this thread and is waiting to hear from the guy he received it from. Do stay tuned...

That such effort is made to copy something reminds us how valuable intellectual property/ideas are! The clone manufacturer obviously has some manufacturing skill & resource, but relies totally on leeching others' designs... Such a shame!

I was so paranoid when I purchased my first CRK on the secondary market... Now however, I'm familiar enough with the authentic that I'm confident I can easily spot a fake. To the OP's point, it's easier to spot fakes with firsthand experience, but it's nice that we can help each other out on here with collective wisdom.

In this pic you can see how close "Spyderco" stamp is to blade grind and it is perfectly straight along grind.
I apologize for blurry "authentic" photo pic was taken way before i knew i would ever see a fake. But my point is pretty clear in pic. "Spyderco" stamp is canted and the integrity of the letter spacing is maintained throughout, where as on fake each letter is almost touching. And of course "hack" mark at first 1/8" of blade.

One of the easiest ways to identify is that the barcode does not touch the numbers below it. On a real Spyderco box the bar code touches the top of the numbers.

Imported fakes? Which ones u want?
(( please don't post links to non-paid dealers ))
Glad custom knives aren't this easy

I know this is an old post but I figured I would chime in. I think one way you can tell is where the relief cut for the compression lock is. It is more angled on the fake and more rounded on the real deal.

Now days with all the info on the web about these fakes there is no excuse for buying a fake one. If you buy it on the internet take a little time and research it on the internet.
