Buyer/trader beware- michael snow

Sticking with people that have demonstrated integrity over the years, have a vested interest in being a genuine part of the community, also do a search on their name here and see what comes up.

The address he gave me was:

Carolina Beach Mini Mart
C/o Michael Snow
901 Carolina Beach Ave. N
Carolina Beach, NC 28428

He contacted me direct using my e-mail address that I posted in the body of my message-which I won't to again. Next time I'll let people contact me through the forum so I can at least see their user name.

It sucks that people feel the need to do things like this. Truly makes the world a terrible place to live.
Delivery services usually have tons of red tape to go through to get anything back or any sort of compensation, and that's if their willing to claim it's even their responsibility. Which they won't.
Back in the 80's people could get away with robbing banks. Nowadays people can get away with grossly obvious larceny from the comfort of their own homes.

The address :
Michael Snow
97 Rocky Point Landing Rd
Rocky Point NY 11778

Is about 3 miles from my where I live.... What can I do for you?

Don't know that it is any help, but Carolina Beach is about as east as you can get in North Carolina, near Wilmington on the coast. Area code here is (910). The (336) area code posted earlier is in the middle part of the state, around the Greensboro area. Don't know about the business address there in Carolina Beach. If I can find out anything more will let everyone know.

This really sucks. I really would like to trade a few, but I fear the scammers. It's good to point out these scum to others. I know a lot of people don't report scams because of embarrassment. I really hate seeing this happen:(

Paul, thanks, but I'm simply going to look at this as a learning experience, a $60ish learning experience! I am certainly going to be more careful in my trades as well as my purchases, and whom I deal with, and i promise all of you forum members to work as hard as possible to represent my trades/sales as well as how I treat others. I love BLADEFORUMS and have met some incredibly good people!

Scott, man sorry to see this (for any one else Rowdyff is a stand up member and is great to trade with, I know he has atleast one positive feedback thread here in the GBU) and I've done multiple perfect transactions with him.

I to am in the middle of a shady trade, the guy said his end of the trade was to go out at 4:30pm on Tuesday but come to find out the PO closed at noon for the holiday and he's no longer responding. He also wouldn't provide me with his forum name even tho I asked 3 times (I found him but I made the mistake of emailing his posted email, not threw the forum and I don't remember his name). Not enough time to know if anythin is really amuck or not but with the surge of threads like these as of late, and his lack of response now even tho before hand he was replying back within minutes I'm more than a little jumpy on the "start new thread" button.

The more of these I see, the more I begin to believe that it might be a good idea to start setting up middle-men in trade transactions...someone trustworthy (as in they have a vested interest in the forums) who receives both trades and then ships once both have arrived and are in decent order. It'd be an extra cost for double shipping, but nothing too extravagant, and would protect both parties, assuming someone trustworthy was chosen.

Trade with reliable people. How can you tell? Look at iTrader and FEEDBACK, go to their profile and see what forums they post in. The wider their interests, outside the Exchange, the better. See how long they've been here.

The more posts they have, the better! :D

I have to agree with The MidniiteSuperMod (ESAV). I would not do a trade with anyone with less that 20 pos. feedbacks and at least 12 months on the forum. Not unless they shipped to me first. I hope the mods. ban this guy fast and you can get some resolution.

1. What's his email?

2. Any time you have a bad feeling about a deal, back out of it. If he won't give a name, I would worry. I don't like to give out my phone number because I don't hear well anyway. But user name, name & address I put as a signature block when I email or PM on a deal.

Not going to happen. On an ad hoc basis, maybe two people can agree on a willing middleman, but I don't see Bladeforums getting involved / being responsible on a regular, formal basis.

Agreed. We end up getting sucked into deals that happened elsewhere and end up having to do stuff even though it's none of our concern. As of right now, i can remember vividly about 4 instances where a buyer or trader got super lazy, ended up getting ripped off, then expected us to miracle them some results.
Everyone needs to take responsibility for their actions on this and any other forums when trading. We will gladly help with what we can, but there is only so much even we can do. We try to provide the best advice we can, and we discuss these things frequently (mods). But ultimately, it's the responsibility of the parties involved directly. In closing, i will say that about 99% of the time there are good people out there. Knowing how to find them and deal with them exclusively is not tough at all. While we all started new, the best way for new guys to build their rep is to transact with seasoned buyers, sellers, and traders with integrity. As new guys, you ship first. Use insurance, package properly, ship properly and use signature confirmation when needed, keep records of emails, receipts, etc.

Oh, I wasn't saying on a Forum level, merely on an ad hoc, individual to individual level. Personally I think it would be a good system for people to voluntarily implement, but I can definitely see it being even more of a headache for you guys if it were to be implemented by the forum.

This is also a good example of why you should never post your email address directly into a forum post. Any non member can see it there and email you...even to the point of acting like the person that was suppose to email you.

I got a small scam on me once, cheap thing was lost so it was a good lesson learned. The scammer emailed me, acting like the actual honest forum memeber. Saying hey here is my address ...etc.....so i thought i was dealing with the person i had worked a deal with in the public forum. But nope, day or two later the REAL person contacted me and was like, "whats up we still doing this deal" ....DOH lol

So always good to have your wits about you.

I don't agree about the email bit - they can always find out your email. A better approach in my opinion is to ascertain the forum name and email, and drop the deal if there is any doubt. I always ask for the forum name, check the posts made by that member, and if my 6th sense says okay, proceed with any further comm. Honest members' can provide you with verification details pretty straight up, without any pretenses.

It sounds like good practice to me. Why make it easy for them?

When you email through Blade Forums, both your email and user name become available.

Getting the the other person's address and email is important. In fact, it is so important that when people ask us about an online knife store and we check it out for them, if that website doesn't have a street address and email, we suggest they are too shady to do business with.

What email bit, i was explaining how you can get scammed through email. Its best that if you ARE going to communicate through email, to verify its the person your supposed to be talking to. Through PM on this site. Together you should be able to stay out of trouble.
