Buying Automatic Knives

Should I be worried about purchasing a automatic knife online? I’d like to purchase a Protech from GPKnives but the laws regarding shipping autos has me worried.

No, I've never heard of such a thing. Worst that will happen is that someone will refuse to sell to you because of where you live.

So what’s the problem? Reputable retailer shipping to a place where autos are legal. Done deal IMO.

I know nothing about autos as they are illegal in my neck of the woods....

you’ll probably have to fill out an online form stating that you’re military/leo/first responder for them to ship it to you, unless you reside in the same state as the online retailer. the switchblade act bans automatic knives being sent across state borders except to military procurement officers, active military personal, or businesses to sell in states where it is legal to own them. some online retailers will ship to leos & first responders even tho that isn’t technically a valid exception to the act.

hopefully soon doug & our friends at knife rights can get this bull**** fixed, but until then it sadly is what it is.

Sometimes I have trouble understanding all the legal mumbo jumbo but if I'm reading that correctly, GPK could legally ship you an automatic knife as long as they don't use USPS to ship it.

The other thing that I'm getting from that is that if the "Interstate" law is broken it's the party who shipped it that broke the law, not the recipient.

This is my understanding as well. When I first got into knives, I had an ill-advised jaunt into automatic knives (not legal in my state, ended up costing me a job in college). If they are sent by private common carrier like UPS or FedEx and are legal in the state you have them sent to, you oughtn't to have any problems.
