buying first pistol

Not that I'm opposed to the XD at all, but I'm going to shoot a lot of them before buying a 9mm or .45

I have a Walther P22 and the Israeli Military Industries Baby Eagle in .40 The Walther is a fun plinker and the new magazines are reliable. I am quite pleased with the Baby Eagle.

That's a good idea. I have people ask me what I think would be a good gun for them to buy. I tell them what might be feel good for me may not feel right for them. It's about what feels best in YOUR hand .

OK, so now that I have my gun I want to talk a little bit about ammunition. I don't know much about weight (grains?), or types, or subsonic vs. supersonic....

I bought two boxes of Remington 380 to start with. It was recommended that I get that brand for my gun, but it was pretty expensive at $32 each. Why is it that much more than other brands? What kind of ammo should I be using?

i'd want something that functioned in it #1.

did ya get remington ball or HP??

i dont have a .380 right now ao i'm not up on whats the hot load for 'em, but i doubt if any is gonna expand much, i would want something that fed correctly, remington is good ammo, golden sabre is great but IIRC no .380, speer gold dots are good in any calibre FWIW, like i say though get something that feeds in the thing.

The Bersa is a decent gun but you picked one of the most expensive semi auto calibers to shoot. There just isn't a source of cheap 380 ammo. For practice you can find FMJ for $13.00 a box of 50. Sellier & Bellot, PMC, UMC, all should shoot well for you. If you can't find it locally try http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ . For self defense buy CorBon DPX, it is a 80 grain all copper HP and simply the best 380 SD round on the market today. We have tested it and it performs great.

I have a bunch of s&w and ruger wheelguns, springfield and colt 1911s, browning hipowers, a colt woodsman, a browning buckmark, etc., etc. I really enjoy shooting HKs. I have a usp 40 and a p7m8. When I go to the range, I usually take both along with my colt woodsman and browning buckmark (.22s are tough to beat for the economy). That being said, the usp usually goes with me on my out of town trips and the p7 is under the bed. I did go through the "bigger is better" stage once upon a time. The .454 casulls and LAR grizzley .45 auto mags got sold. I have several s&w and ruger .44 mags, but don't shoot them that often. Just commenting on this in that bigger isn't always better. The aura of the magnum cartridge will suck you in at some point in time - just warning you that they are loud, expensive and can sometimes be painful. The pistol bug is just like the knife bug - it can really bite you hard. Sounds like you are doing alot of research and that is the right way to approach it.
