buying new Spyderco knives on Amazon

Just ordered a 2nd S30V Blur for less then $60! Look at all buying options and you may even find a better price? Have gotten a lot from them! Look at vendor for sure and go prime if possible!

Amazon is a great place to buy Spydercos......they sell them for $2 over dealer cost. Pretty soon, it will be the only place you can buy them lol

Hey I got a Delica and Endura from you guys for $54 apiece shipped. That's hard to beat anywhere.

Really? $2 over dealer cost. With free shipping they are losing money.

Amazon will break even or even take a loss in some cases just to get your business. There is no end to their conquests. Look at the MSRP of a Spyderco. Cut that in half and you have the average dealer price on a Spyderco. Look at Amazons Spydercos. ....most are priced only a few dollars above that. Granted, Amazon will land better deals from manufacturers due to their purchasing power than your average dealer, but generally, their goal is to place their products at the lowest price on the internet.....regardless of margins. We hardly sell Spydercos anymore because there is no money in it. If we see a new product we are interested in carrying, the first thing we do is go to Amazon and see if they are selling it. If they are, we likely won't stock the knife. This is getting harder and harder to do as Amazons inventory variety increases. Amazon also continuously disregards MAP pricing and the manufacturers do nothing about it. Money talks.

Don't be fooled, the money you are saving now will be made up in the future as more and more small Internet businesses fail. When Amazon controls the market and has trained everyone to use them as a one stop shop, they will raise their prices. We've seen it before with Walmart and the like. Many folks talk about supporting small business, but in the end, they are playing lip service and will throw you under the bus just to save a buck.

I don't blame these large corporations for their business models. They are truly genius and flourish in a free market.

Yep.....and on paper, we lost money when you include shipping and and other costs. We needed to clear them out and get some of our money back because we could not sell them any other way.

Thanks for the business! I hope you are enjoying the knives.

I got my ZT 0550 from you WAY cheaper than what Amazon sells it for also.

Actually, Amazon knife prices (as well as all their product) fluctuates. There are some complex computer mathematical algorithm they use to monitor and adjust their prices in accordance to supply, demand etc...

Monitor their prices for a while and you'll see this. I remember when Spyderco Yojimbo2 first came out, Amazon had it for $94. A week later, it was at $108. Two weeks later it was at $114, then it went to $125. This is all within a month.

I think when Amazon raises it's price, and people keeps on buying, they then keep on raising that price until the demand cools off. Of course when a product doesn't sell at a given price, you'll see a lower prices getting posted within the week. Their system is always trying to find the highest possible price people are willing to pay.

I have found Spyderco knives at MUCH LOWER prices then Amazon a few times. Bought a SS Police SE for $80 with free shipping from Poorfish twice when Amazon had it at $98.

This is reality. That is why I don't buy knives from them. I have bought a couple knives from them in the past (when I had gift cards), but for knife purchases I will stick to dealers that support this forum and are primarily knife stores. It feels like a losing battle at times, being a small fish in the ocean with whales like Amazon. So, I vote with my dollars. Some folks think it is crazy, but when your only goal is to pursue to lowest possible price, small businesses do fail eventually because they cannot keep up. Even with the same business models in place as the larger stores, buying power notwithstanding. A friend once told me that the 2 major knife and gear wholesalers sell Spyderco knives at exactly half of their MSRP. So, that is why you see so many of them for sale cheap. The market gets saturated and the price stays down. This is why MAAP protection exist, to keep these things from happening. Benchmade, Emerson, Strider, CRK, Microtech, BRKT, and a few others operate on this principle. I understand wanting to save a buck, but that should not always be the most important thing, but many times it is the ONLY thing, especially when money is in short supply. Free market ideals aside, the system is skewed to some extent, but not completely. This is kind of what happened to the economy in manufacturing in the US, but I won't get into that much more, it's a discussion for another forum.

I trust Amazon; have for a lot of years.
Pick a seller with high positive feedback %, just like when you buy a knife off of the Exchange.

I mostly stay with BF dealers because of their customer service, selection, and being able to interact with like minded (knife enthusiasts) people. I'd be lying though if I didn't occasionally buy from the "river". In fact I just scored an Endura 4 for $38 on a warehouse deal. I'm selling it at the cost I paid to a co-worker who is looking for a good edc but is hesitant to pay too much for a knife. Once he gets it in his hands, I sure he'll open his mind and wallet to well built cutlery. I've enabled quite a few people in similar fashion!

I just ran a search for an Amazon Spyderco thread and figured I'de bring this one back to life for a hot second. I just received my first Spyderco from an Amazon dealer with 44 5-star reviews and verified by Amazon. But of course there's always the fear buying from a large and multifaceted website like Amazon that you will receive a knife that is not legitimately what you ordered. I watched a few videos showing some knockoffs, and I am 100% convinced that the knife I bought is indeed a Spyderco. So for those of you on the fence, I think you're good to go. Of course I would have purchased this knife from one of the BF distributors or a designated knife selling website had it not been for the gift card my father in law gave me for my birthday. Definitely the next time though! In the mean time...damn..this knife is incredible!!
