buying online

well, this is an awfully broad topic.

my experiences on the exchange have been nearly all perfect, with only one exception several years ago.

do you have any other specific sites in mind?

its the only way i can buy a knife.{online} what i dont like is not being able to hold it and check it out before hand. whenever i go mainland i get a new one from bass or gander. but for the most part i see what folks are saying and make a decision. some were bad some were good.but the knives sold here are pure crap ive yet to see a usa knife. wait i saw one once here. so im forced to buy online.

Im most asking about this site.
Thats why ive never bought one online is because i like to have it in hand then i will buy.

I've bought from and sold to people on this board. Everything went smoothly for the most part. Some people do not have the luxury of a nice knife shop, to fondle knives before they buy them. Although, if I buy a knife and it does turn out to be something I would rather not keep, I can trade it or sell it here for something else that I would like to have.
That is what collecting is all about, trying different blades, makers, steels, etc. See what is out there, refine your tastes then move into the styles you really like. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I've purchased several inexpensive custom knives here in the For Sale by Maker section. Never had a problem.

You have to keep in mind though, you aren't buying from BladeForums, you're buying from a person who also happens to be a BladeForums member. Obviously BladeForums can't vouch for every single member (there are thousands of us), but I like to think we are an extremely trustworthy group, much more so than eBay.

If you're really concerned, buy from a reputable online dealer.

Look in the Good Bad and Ugly subforum and see if the seller has any good or bad reviews. The good ones are honorable and here to stay while the bad ones don't last very long. Use paypal or a credit card so you have recourse if things go wrong. Beyond that you have to have a level of trust or you shouldn't be buying anything sight unseen.

Please take a look at the guidelines of the General Discussion forum.

It is not the place for threads on where to buy what. It is the place for the actual discussion of knives.

One thing you can do is go to youtube and watch videos of others that have what your looking for. You can watch it being used, held in the hand and so on. Other than being there and holding it like you want to get a better understanding of that particular knife this is the best way.
