Buying Or Shipping Overseas

I've been discussing a knife purchase with a german knifemaker named "Jurgen Schanz" and I was looking for a little feedback on what to expect ordering a knife from Europe.

Are the shipping risks any greater?

Any laws I need to be aware of? [it's not an illegal knife anywhere]

The whole thing's got me kinda baffled, any encouragment would help

I have had a few things (never a knife) shipped from europe and they all made it to me with no problems.

Even if the knife is legal, be sure that no banned materials (modern ivories, skins from endangered animals, etc.) are used in making of the knife or sheath (if there is one).
