Buying & Selling custom knives on the Internet

I have added a further comment to my original post about refunds. Specifically regarding, refunds of payments made by PayPal. Also the thread is worth reading again.

I think these are good policies to follow in order to insure a good trading experience for all.

Just one comment about about PayPal refunds: if the seller uses the "refund" button on PayPal instead of sending the buyer the refund in a new transaction, the seller only gives back the net amount received, but the buyer gets back the full amount paid. When the refund function is used, PayPal actually returns the PayPal fees back to the buyer, so nobody loses anything.

In the future, I plan to link this thread to any for sale post I make.

I have taken the liberty of adding this to my original post.

I think this thread deserves a bump in the aftermath of Blade, I am sure there will be a whole lot of wheeling and dealing going on.

International money orders can be held for 5 weeks in Canada.
I still ship when we receive the funds but it is a little stressful unless we have done business with the customer before. The bank teller will ask if I know the customer. The day is coming when money orders will be no different from personnal cheques, 5 weeks mandatory.

I don't see a problem with a complete satisfaction lifetime guarantee on craftsmanship. It is handmade custom knives we are selling.

My bank doesn't hold them if they are US international postal money orders.

It has been a couple of years since I posted this, and I suspect we have more than a few new contributors to the forum since that time.

Please forgive me for the necrobump. Does the post need to be updated?

Good advice.
I would only add that the seller is responsible for putting the knife/knives in the "hands" of the buyer. Seller responsibility doesn't end with him/her dropping the knife at the their local post office or FedEx depot. Thus insurance and delivery/signature confirmation benefits and should be provider by the seller.

An exception to the above could be when a seller ships a knife to a buyer in a different country where there's conditions beyond the seller's control such as customs, local laws/restrictions and/or the buyer not wanting the knife insured or wants the seller to provide an inaccurate description or declared value.
