Hi Guys

What other avenues have you guys found good for selling, trading or buying your knives other then this forum??
As some may know this forum can be quite restrictive for newer members to the community when it comes to buying/selling.
Hard to get going in a hobby when one of the biggest communities out there makes it so challenging!
Do not want to make this sound like a rant or anything, I just want to know if there is any solutions to this real world problem... lol

What is restrictive about it? You need to buy knives before you can sell them. If you bought them here you'd have some feedback already. I made sure I had plenty of purchasing feedback and discussion input before I ever attempted to sell anything around here.

Most people are deep into a hobby before they realize it is their "hobby". If you are starting from scratch with the intent of becoming an obsessed enthusiast, I'm sure it can be rather intimidating... But overall this is a great community with plenty of people willing to help you get started.

If you have already purchased a knife here and haven't received feedback, a quick follow up with the seller letting them know you are happy with the knife usually resolves that.

Contributors to Bladeforums have much better luck in moving items, than a newbie here just to sell.
Yes i would very much imagine this to be true.... then again that's what i was kinda saying..... and that's a little problem for newbies isn't it? its kinda hard to experience new knives and contribute when that's the case right?

Blade Forums is probably the best venue to sell knives. People often feel more secure buying here. All it takes is a paid membership. In today's world, that is not a huge deal $ especially if you buy and sell on a regular basis. Everyone seems to depend on Pay Pal as their way of receiving money. I'm more comfortable with USPS money orders personally as I prefer not to leave sales "tracks".

I've sold to many members with zero feedback, as others did for me. You can ask questions about knives you don't own. Once you have knives, you can write about them, post pictures, etc. Not sure where you're going with this...

Well I have about ten really nice flippers/folders now( ranging from $100 to $1100 pieces) and two of them I have bought from here. the last one I even asked her to leave me some feedback. but she didnt.... i guess i could follow up with her.

BF is by far my favorite site to buy and sell on but I use multiple sites. There are other sites but I find them even more restrictive than BF in my opinion.

I also participate a lot here in the various forums because I enjoy it. I definitely post more than actual buying and selling and I guess that might help when selling and/or buying but to be honest, I've never really thought about it.

I see you bought a knife recently. Get that feedback once you get the knife and ask the seller to do the same. Something sellers/buyers forget. It happens so feel free to send a reminder.

Participating in the actual threads and interacting with other users makes a big difference. There have been far too many scammers sign up and post #1 is a big ticket blade.
can imagine that could be an issue..... i just never seen a forum that charges membership before and restricts classified so much. and i'm on a few different forums... e.g. = golf, tennis, watch forums to name a few.

Other sites like USN require a membership. Reddit doesn't. But, they are both more restrictive than BF.

You simply have to buy and knife before selling on here. You've done that and will have feedback shortly. Send the selling a message to see if he/she will post you feedback now that you've paid for the knife. Assuming you have. What's the problem? If BF isn't for you, move on. The rules aren't going to change for you.

No, he means something different than what you're saying. By "contributing" he means to participate outside of the Exchange in the discussion parts of the forum. This is a great way to not only share your knowledge, but to learn and get to know others that share in the same hobby as you. It's an odd experience. There are members here that I've never conversed with personally, but have seen enough of their posts to know that I'd have no qualms in dealing with them. Conversely, there are members here that have great feedback from the Exchange that I'd be less inclined to deal with for various reasons.

In my opinion, you're looking at the forum experience backwards. The discussions on this forum are the heart and soul of it. There is enough info on here that it'd take a lifetime to read it all and even longer to digest. The Exchange is just an added bonus.

Fair enough, but paid memberships are also a big part of what keeps the lights on.;)

IMO, it's not terribly restrictive for what you get. If you want to make money here, you have to spend a little and you are still arguably paying less than anywhere else you might post knives up for sale. Buying and offering trades to existing listings wont cost you a penny. Well, maybe for shipping.

It is not that hard to buy sell and trade on the exchange if you do it right. if you do a search you will find threads to help you achieve this. Most problems are due to newbee mistakes. Number one being-asking to get paid F&F-that will loose you a substantial number of buyers. State what you are selling clearly as well as the faults, set of photos, and price reasonably. . When buying-ask reasonable ?'s but don't act like a paranoid. Like anything else those items in the most demand move the fastest. If it isn't well known it may sit.

Sellers want to sell, and buyers want to buy, but they want successful transactions, and if they feel dealing with you will not lead to success they will move on.
Everyone here was new once and managed to get through it just fine. Some made mistakes on the way. The smart ones learned from those mistakes. The dumb expected the forum to come around to them-didn't happen.
Id leave trading to latter. It is a trickier transaction than a buy or sell and also needs more trust.

There's never enough time for what we need to do and want to do. Know that you're far from alone on that count. :D

You may want to bite the bullet and pay for an upgrade. It can be had for less than a dollar a month for Basic and only $2.50 a month if you want to sell. If you use the Exchange with any frequency you'll get more than enough value out of the small investment in no time.

If you can afford hundred dollar knives, you can afford to pay to play here.

Basic membership is ten bucks. Gold is thirty. This community is amazing and the wealth of knowledge available within these forums is inconceivable.

Nothing complicated or restrictive.

If you're really put off by the membership fee here, you can utilize Reddit's knife swap, Facebook groups, and even these forums. All for free. Lots of members post their email as a contact method in their sale posts. Including myself. However, I will always show preference and sell to an established member before a single poster.
