Buying the same knife more than twice: Do you? Why?

Don't know if this counts, but I buy (and use) multiple kitchen knives of identical types.

(paring, 8" chefs, and boning)

I need them to remain sharp when doing large prep work and (usually) don't have time to stop and sharpen a dull knife.

I've got the disease too.

I've 2 to 3 duplicates of almost every knife I've got.

I recently bought 6 One Hand Trekkers (Hard to get here in the UK)

and countless other SAK's.

4 Buck110's

I do have 2 grandsons I hope to pass them all on to.

I do it often and the only darn reason that I can think of is, I wanted to at the time. I very often give them to friends thinking they will like them as much as I do.:) But then of course, I have to get another to replace it. Can't go backwards.

I love the Buck 110's and 112's and I also have an affinity for stockman pattern knives. They are like peanuts, I can't stop with just one. I have lots of other knives, but I always have one (or more) of the above on me. I feel naked without one. Good thing I don't feel this way about Ferrari's.

I'm guilty of buying multiples. Some reasons are:

1. I like the type of knife and want to have more in case I lose, destroy one.

2. Some favorite EDC's were disco'd and I ahd to pay aftermarket price or just couldn't find them later.

3. To compare/ contrast a pristine blade (versus the one I used) with other knives I may get in the future.

4. I got a screamin' deal on a model i've already gotten.

the main reason I would do it is either because I wanted to store them in different places, for different uses (eg, one to carry, one in the back of the car, one in a BOB, one spare to replace any of the others that need replaceing)

or for frost's mora knives, which can be had for cheaper if you buy them in bulk (5's I think) but are still cheap enough not to break the bank, so I could have several stored away as spares, or maybe play around with modding a couple.

I do it because they are limited sprint runs a lot

I have bought 3 or more of some knives because I:

lost a favorite knife and went to replace it and it was no longer available or priced out of reach.

got attached to a really unique knife that 'might' go out of production. Ex: anything automatic.

I've got several Douk Douks and Opinels stashed away at home or on my person, not counting more I've bought as gifts for others. Why? They're cheap, and I like their style:

One to use and a backup if something happens to the first one. I just don't do this with knives, I also apply this policy with lots of other stuff:D

I have bought the same exact knife once. It was a Spyderco Tenacious. I don't know why. It was so cheap and so good I just thought I'd put another away for the future. I'm not a collector, just a guy looking for the perfect folder. Haven't found THE one yet. Decided it doesn't exist anyway. I've gathered a few good ones though.

Because you have children and you want them to have one at the appropriate time.

try to get a discontinued spyderco! hard to locate. more expensive. for example: i just figured out that the large manix was what i was looking for in a edc this past summer. surpise! discontinued! aaaaaaahhhhhhh! lucky i found one and scooped it up! aaaaaaaaahhhhh! i need another!

i'm a materialistic pig! but now i got 2! with another on it's way across the pacific!

I have 3 different versions of Fällkniven F1 as you can't never have enough of these excellent knives. Besides that I own 2 Extrema Ratio Col Moshins (one for my collection and one as my primary user). I'd like to have extra Fehrmans and Busses if I had the money.. And I'd like to have an extra Fällkniven PXL..:(

With the way steel prices have been going, knives aren't bad investments. The prices go up almost before the ink on the catalogs is dry. I got a bunch of CRKT S-2s a couple of years ago and they had 4-inch ATS-34 blades and titanium frames; the price was twenty-five bucks apiece, including shipping!

Cabela's Alaskan 110s, with quality S30V blades and leather cases are still available for a ridiculously inexpensive sixty-eight dollars. Like some guns, some knives make good investments, especially with fewer blades being made in Japan and the U.S. Only CRKT's and Gerber's line is suffering, and that's because they're using crap steel for blades that heretofore was only used for liner material.

The CRKT S-2 was an astounding buy.

The Buck 110 Alaskan, made for Cabela's, still is a great
bargain. Very few non-knife nuts know about it.

if it's not smart enough to do twice, i don't do it the first time.

buying two at once is a self-check on my desire for THAT knife..
