Buying two of the same safe queens

I have no appreciation or use for safe queens. I buy my knives to use and enjoy. I'm guessing when I'm gone, no one else will enjoy them as much as I would.
Great outlook that does make sense I have daughters and they just are not interested in knives so I guess no one else would appreciate them as much as me, I think I may just take out my Difensa to the bush after all.

If one is good, two must be better I suppose? I know their has been times when I really really like something. Doesn’t matter what it is, but I say, what if something happens to the first one, I should have a backup just in case. In case of what? I dunno, but it seemed like a good idea.

Others may not understand this but I definitely do. I have OCD also, especially when it comes to my knives. I have multiple safe queens and multiple safe queen duplicates. I think I justify doing this because originally I tell myself that I’m going to use one and keep the other pristine but I seldonly do. And I have plenty of quality users to rotate through. So sometimes I can’t bring myself to use or even take some of my knives out of their original boxes. Don’t be ashamed of this though, I’m sure not! And I also know that most of if not all of my safe queen duplicates can turn a pretty good profit if I ever get into a pinch. Which I probably never will but I tell myself this to justify keeping them:D

I can relate man that sounds like my knife habits, ocd and any sort of collecting can be tedious sometimes, preventing rust is my new challenge!

I feel you man. I usually do my best to keep my users as dry as possible and periodically wipe them down with a little bit of windex and paper towels. As far as my safe queens I keep them in the original packaging, original box, in a chest and in my safe. That usually does the trick:D

I've yet to find the knife that is so perfect I want two of them. Each knife I've ever owned has had some detail that made it less than ideal -- blade shape, grind, steel, handle material, whatever. That being the case, why would I ever need two of them?

Does anyone else have this problem? Every time I finally get funds to but a blade over $300 if I like it I buy another one of the exact same model even though they sit in a safe!

I bought 3 Gerber Mark 1 35th anniversary edition daggers. I have 2 in my house and one in my parent's house in my home country. LOL

If/when I want a safe queen, I’ll just buy a 1 oz American Gold Eagle. The price is in the Shirogorov range, rust is never a worry and reselling is always a lot easier and quicker.

I understand a backup, or a knife intended for future use in general, but I don't think I'd buy a knife I have no use for other than to look at.

I only buy knives to use and look forward to passing down knives that show wear and stories to my sons. I see that a lot of people here are collectors and buy "safe queens", to each his own and I understand the reasoning, but my only question is: are knives actually good investments? I can see knives of historical value, but are there examples of knives appreciating significantly in 10-30 years? I just wonder about the actual investment potential, and leaving a perfectly good knife in a safe to make $100 over 10 years doesn't seem worth it.

Sure, knives can act as a commodity and a hedge against inflation and accrue in value, but not if you pay under $1000 for the knife. More like $10,000, and it is a rare artisan piece.

I buy for myself first, and my nephew and niece will probably get everything I own.

Absolutely get out and use that sucker!

No...... I could almost see it if you put one in your safe and used the other, but even then, no, not really.
