Buying two of the same safe queens

The few times I've purchased a second of the same knife was because I was carrying/using the knife and enjoyed it enough to warrant having a backup. I completely understand having things you want and keeping them put away to protect their value. Heck, buy 3 or more of something if that's what you enjoy. Many other things I'd keep in a safe though. Knives just take up a lot of room for the value.

I don't have duplicates or safe queens. However, I have a ridiculous amount of knives so most only get carried a couple days per year. I have several models each of various brands. You may not fit the "norm" of this group but if you're enjoying your collection, good for you!

I buy doubles of my favorites. One to use and one to keep as a perfect back up. Sometimes I buy 3 , 4 or 5 if my funds allow it. I like what I like.

As stated, I have a few doubles, and really do not consider any of my knives safe queens, just, not yet used.

If you buy a tuxedo, you may wear it a few times for special occasions and that is how I look at my knives. Some may be dressy, some may be for full out combat, bush-crafting, etc., and when I need them I have them.

I haven't had the guts to get them all out at once. Then my wife would probably tell me it's time to thin the herd. The current cataloged total, including tactical folders, slipjoints, SAKs and fixed knives, stands at 606.

I've never been inclined to get multiples of the exacts same knife, though I have owned multiple variations of a few models. I like to maintain a nice variety of folders, so for me having multiples of one knife kind of impedes this goal. Traditionals have been the worst so far! So many desirable variations (curse you CK Euro Barlow!).

I have a knife model that I carry daily and 8 other different versions I don't ;)

The only time I've bought and kept two knives that are exact is when I am using one. I have only one example of this today and it's my ZT0560 Blackwash. I'm glad I did too as it's one of my favorite and is now discontinued!

Yeah that's a lot of knives. I've started thinning out my collection because I just don't see the point in it anymore for me. Why have knives that are just going to sit in a box tucked away? I'll keep the ones I use or that were given to me, but everything else I'm slowly selling or giving away. I tried that with firearms too but my wife said no to selling any of those lol

I have this problem. I can never really use a knife until I have another of basically the same knife in my safe as a backup. Two backups is even better...

No safe queens and no duplicates for me. I'd rather have two different knives than two of the same knife.

I have a bad habit of buying two but one is usually a safe Queen and the other is a hard user

I'm reducing my collection in an attempt to only keep the ones that I carry. No real safe queens at this point but I do have quite a few that in storage waiting for the day when I have the time to list then for sale. I'm recently addicted to Spyderco Delica's. I know of a total of 7 of which only one is NIB and that is a v-toku version where I got a little too excited and ordered two. The extra will be sold soon. In summary my new motto is if I don't carry and use the knife then it will be sold.

No use here for safe queens. It doesn't matter if I pay $50 or $500 for a knife, I buy knives to use. I have a few knives that get carried sparingly but that's for sentimental reasons.

Thank goodness your wife put her foot down!

There’s about 5 or 6 ZTs that I have duplicates of, but I’ll keep one in the safe and occasionally use the other one. I think of these knives more as an investment now, I mean look at what the older models go for if they’re in brand new condition! Usually at least $100 over original price....out of the 50 or so I have, Ive probly only used 10
