It's been quite a while back since I posted here on the Spyderco section of the Manufacturer's sub-forum regarding this upcoming Spyderco Sprint Run of the C-60 Ayoob model. It's been over a year since I first posted the news regarding this Sprint Run of the C-60 Ayoob model. Well I finally got some news over at Spyderco.com Forum that the Sprint Run C-60 Ayoob is very close to being released ( probably in the next two months or so). When I first posted about the C-60 Sprint run here on BF back in the fall of 2020 I got quite a few responses. Apparently there are quite a few of you all that appear to be very interested in the C-60 Sprint Run of this great Spyderco "Ultra-Classic". It's been one of my top 5 favorite Spyderco models of all time even since I bought my first one back in 2002. I still EDC my 2011 Sprint Run of this model with the black G-10 handle and plain edged blade.

Also it appears that on this new Sprint Run is going to be available in plain edge and full Spyderedge ( fully serrated). They didn't make the 2011 Sprint Run of The C-60 in full SE for whatever reason. But I've been assured that this 2022 Sprint Run of the C-60 Ayoob model will be made available in both edge types.

This C-60 Massad Ayoob has had a steady and dedicated cult following for quite some time now. Personally I'm really excited about this new C-60 Sprint Run and in both edge types. It's one of the very few Spyderco models that I personally love equally in both edge types. Several people I've talked to recently still maintain that it's the very best full SE model that Spyderco ever made. I anxious to hear what you all think and whether or not you plan to get one of these C-60 Ayoob Sprint Runs. Also which edge type do you prefer? Let's talk about this upcoming Spyderco C-60 Ayoob Sprint Run.

So I head the chatter there were some pics from Shot Show. Any solid images yet?

I have the sprint version. Really nice, very thin in the pocket.

Sorry to rain on your parade, OP.

I realize that there is a lot of excitement in some circles regarding the pending release of another Ayoob Sprint Run but I simply do not share that interest.

I own (or have owned) a least 1 variation of almost every model of knife designed specifically as an SD knife ever made by Spyderco, including an original 2001-2002 PE C60 Ayoob, which I like, but it is NOT my favorite Spyderco SD knife by a long shot.

As a result, I never bothered trying to buy the 2011 Ayoob Sprint nor do I have any interest in pending Ayoob Sprint. However, I expect that new & pending Ayoob Sprint release will sell out quickly and that it will command a premium in the 2ndary market based on supply & demand.

FWIW, my favorite Spyderco SD-specific knives are the Karahawk, Introvert, Tropen and Yojimbo (or Ronin).

the name is legandary.
the knife an aquired taste.
hoping perhaps
something could be done
to widen that appeal in future runs.
my humble suggestion is to
develop a 2-stage locking mechanism.
one that is able to
allow for full extended blade
(for utility)
besides the signature angled slant
for that pistol grip sd.
waddaya say spydie crew??!

Over at Spyderco.com Forum there was a picture of the plain edged version recently posted. I was surprised to see that the plain edged version has "Cruwear" blade steel from Crucible. I was kind of surprised to see that a Japan made unit had Cruwear blade steel. But it was a pleasant surprise to be sure.
Haven't heard of anything from the "Shot Show" or any other show for that matter as of yet. I've also heard that the front office of Spyderco also finally got a prototype. The C-60 Ayoob has been one of my personal favorites for quite a while now and I'm looking forward to this newest edition. Over at Spyderco.com Forum the response has been very positive up till now.

Are you always writing in poem style? 🤔

Everyone is interested. I don't like Massad Ayoob, but I do want that knife in cruwear.
I just learned that there is a Youtube video of Eric Glesser ( Sal's son) showing some of the new Spyderco blades and the C-60 Ayoob is among those he is showing. I think the video was just released today from what I was told.

I discovered that the handle/scales are peel ply G-10 and the blade on the plain edged version is most definitely Cruwear as I said earlier. Not sure if the serrated version is going to have that same blade steel. I would suspect that they might use something like VG-10 or some other cheaper blade steel for the serrated version. But we should know very soon from what I gathered.

Folks I can't wait to start EDCing this C-60 Sprint Run. It's a dream come true for me.

Did they change the blade slightly on this one? Something about it looks different to me.

I’d certainly be interested in an Ayoob SE when they become available! Sold my old plain edged one awhile back and still regret doing so. Thanks for the effort you’ve put into getting this upcoming release going.

Looking forward to the opportunity to try this one JD. Cruwear is icing on the cake.

The more I think about it the more I'm beginning to believe that Cruwear might just be the perfect blade steel for the plain edged version of this great Sprint Run. No word yet however on which steel they are using on the serrated model. I'm going to be eating hot dogs and bologna for at least a month because I've set some cash aside for one PE unit and 2 of the SE unit of the C-60 Ayoob Sprint Run.

This should be a "collector's dream" blade. Because within the next 6 months the aftermarket value will do nothing but go upward. I truly do think that there will be a very short time slot to obtain this one through retail sources. Actually I hope I'm wrong making that statement.

But again a Cruwear version of the C-60 is going to be an awesome EDC folder people who take their "every day carry" blade seriously as many of us do. I'm hoping that the serrated version with have either VG-10 or XHP blade steel. Both of those blade steels would be a winner for a serrated blade version IMO.

Not that I can tell. Because this new G-10 handle really makes the C-60 look like a completely new model all together IMO. It's truly amazing how a new handle can make an older model look completely new. A good example of that would be to take a look at all the past C-52 Caly Jr. models that Spyderco was so successful with for such a long time. There are so many of those Caly Jr. models that appear to be completely new models.

Up till now we've had a very limited view of this model in the original 2002 Run and in the 2011 Sprint Run>> there just wasn't a huge margin of difference in those previous models. This is going to be one of the best Sprint Runs we've seen in quite some time IMO. And we've seen some really good ones in the past 5 years from Spyderco.

I like that it is a different style of knife.
Can someone elaborate on the usefulness of the shape ?

I've always wanted one. I'd choose spyderedge cruwear. I think the CQI is the ramp shape and jimping. Eric says something in the GP Knives shot show video...

I've recently carried one of my older, second generation plain edged C-60 Ayoob models for my primary plain edged EDC folder. I carried it everyday for about 3 months and I found the C-60 to be an excellent all purpose folder. The blade design is so ergonomic and streamlined in design you can use it for a wide range of cutting chores.

I believe the only reason the C-60 Ayoob model never took off the first two times Spyderco offered it is because the design was truly ahead of it's time.
