Cabelas 110 Question

Looks like it came shaped from the factory, but is completly coated blade. Never was put on the sharpener to finish the edge. HL

Sorry wolfdog have not figured out how to post pictures. I have heard that you need a photo account or something. Can try to e-mail you a picture. HL

Wolf, It has the same statement on my paperwork that came with the AG 110 . However, the address they say to send it to is, 1900 Weld Blvd. EL Cajon, CA . So, whose minding the shop and sharpening for Buck at the old location ? Some past employee that didn't make the move ? DM

David, I just got out my new Ironwood AG and the paper work says to send it to Buck in Post Falls now.

My guess is that you have an old knife made in 2004, or that you have an old product slip that should have been discarded and replaced with one with the Post Falls address.

Buck must still have some kind of presence in California because they have to charge California sales tax when I order anything from them. I still don't know why.

I have had an AG 110 for years - nice knife. Sadly, I am not fond of blade coatings - especially on a SS like S30V. The gold writing wears, too. Also, the Buck Custom Shop has spoiled me. They'll sub nickel silver bolsters, if you aren't so fond of brass. In addition, my few C.S. 110s are 'perfect'. Of course, I have never bought a defective 110 of any type. I do hear that they do make them, but only during blue moons - on a Tuesday - in odd numbered months.

Sadly, I liked the CPM154 110 made for Bass Pro. Hopefully, they will eventually get more. Lately, it was the only way to get that blade metal in a 110, as the C.S. only has a choice of 420HC or S30V nowadays. Speaking of the C.S. - a custom made 110 in S30V, NS bolsters, walnut, cordura sheath. etc - for $85.50 - is a steal. Add $30 for Asian waterbuffalo instead of walnut, if you want. I got a finger grooved & jigged Asian waterbuffalo handled C.S. 110 years ago - BG-42 blade, too. I also lucked in to a teardrop Damascus blade - wow! They've dropped some nice blades - and increased prices. They've all been made right, too. Just another 'choice' - but the AG110, like my AG192, is a nice knife... if you'll use it without regard to that gold writing and Al-Ti-N finish.

Could be they still have articles of incorporation in California.

14Bucks just sent me photos of his AG Vanguard 192 with a coated unsharpened edge. He couldn't post them here, so I offered to host them. So here you see them:

Stainz

You bring up a really good point Stainz. I'm gonna pay $92.00 with shipping for the Cabelas version or $86.00 for the Bass Pro model so going custom with that type of handle is a definite option. My custom 1st choices were asian jigged buff or ram horn so I was thinking of a bigger price difference.

Thank you wolfdog for posting the pictures. I finally have a knife that pepole can see.:D HL

The coating and logo are actually pretty cool looking the only problem I have is that they don't look like that for long with use. I have a few coated blades and I always tell myself I'm not gonna buy anymore coated users but I cant help myself sometimes. Scratches give em character. LOL

Damn I kinda want that knife too now! Don't have a vanguard. I'm all over the place.

Stainz, "Gold writing" . Are you meaning the ram logo on the blade ? This can easily be removed using Acetone and a scotch brite pad with some elbow grease . I've always liked that logo . But some like them and some don't . DM

Which grade of scotch brite David? Does that mark up the black coating at all?

Plumber, Just the type used on washing dishes . I've not done mine but I've seen it done . That titanium coating is real hard stuff, I don't think rubbing it with a scotch brite pad is enough to mar the surface . I ground into the coating some while sharpening on a stone and it did show but that was a 100 grit SiC, Norton stone . DM
