Just got one from Cabela's, so here are my first impressions: Fit and finish are typical Buck 110, excellent. Some surprises. Heat treatment by Paul Bos, with his stamp on the blade, didn't know that until I got it, very cool. Sharper than my BM 710's were out of the box. Not going to mess with that. S30V stainless is coated with "TiAIN" Titanium Aluminum Nitride. Looks black in the Cabela's catalogue. It's not black. What it looks like is blued carbon steel. Not like BT or epoxy at all, totally opaque. I like it a lot. Who said you couldn't blue stainless? Rosewood scales are nice, but have very little grain or figure. Brass bolsters "needed" a serious Brasso treatment, but don't they all? Leather sheath is also higher grade than normal. Knife seems to be heavier than a regular 110, but I haven't actually weighed them. I could do without the Alaskan Guide logo on the blade, but I can deal with it. Overall, well worth $60.00. That blade coating is outstanding. Just my two cents worth.

Congratulations. You are the proud owner of one of the best knife deals going! Enjoy! ;)

+1. Aside from the fact that I like the clean look of the rosewood. With normal Buck 110s, I'm forever trying to find grain patterns I like. With the rosewood, it's not an issue.

When I was with San Diego Police, I had special grips made for my Colt Python made out of rosewood. These grips had a natural finish without the redish stain the Cabela 110 has. I'd love to see a 110 with that finish on rosewood for scales. It was more like a medium cherry stain you find on fine furniture. The grain details showed up fine.

I really like the rosewood too. I was just used to the "tiger stripe" grain pattern on the regular 110. Didn't bring my digital camera home, or i'd show pics. Most impressive part, obviously, is the blade. My first "real" knife was a 110. Still one of the best. Kind of like the Kabar(there's only one), S&W Model 19, Colt 1911, Remington 870, Winchester 94(R.I.P.), Ruger 10/22. Not the latest, just the best. I tried to clean the first squirrel i killed with my trusty schrade. Total disaster. Got a Buck 110 for my birthday. Never a problem again. Dad talked me out of trying to cut through a bolt:D

I'm curious about the warranty on these. If you break the blade, do you send it to Buck or Cabela's??? Did Cabela's buy the 110+S30V and have it enameled [or whatever that logo is] by Buck??? Or did they buy 500 or so 110's+S30V and have their own shop do the logo graphic???

What I'm getting at here is, if you sent it to Buck for a warranty blade replacement and it was Cabela's that did the logo, the replacement you got back wouldn't have the logo because Buck didn't put it on. If Cabela's put the logo on, and warrantees the knife, then you'd have to send it to Cabela's, they'd send it to Buck for the blade replacement, and back to Cabela's; then Cabela's sends it to the enameler for the logo, then back to Cabela's, then finally back to you...

This is weird... :D

This is strange...I got an Alaskan Guide 110 yesterday...what put me over in to the buy mode was Mike Kerin's picture in his photo album, sometime ago. I'd seen them at Cabelas before but that picture really showed it off. I was at Cabelas yesterday and bought one(and a Benchmade mini-grip in D2)...with points off my card:D. I agree with every statement that's been made about it. I second the dislike for the logo...but until I can be sure of what will take it off and not harm the blade finish, I'll live with it.

Trax, the literature that's with it states that it has "Buck's famous 4-Ever Warranty. Preston

All of this talk about the 110 is making want to re-look at this knife. I really like the Alaskan Guide series knives, good quality and excellent steel. I ended up getting the Vangaurd fixed blade hunter, but I'm starting to think that I may be needing another folder!:)

But if you needed a bladectomy...would you get a blank S30V w/TiAlN blade minus the Alaskan logo??? Or with it??? Who does the personalized inscription/graphic???

I can go down to Wally World and buy 6 110's and have them etched any way I want..."BladeForums/Buck 2006"...but that doesn't mean Buck will match the etching if a blade breaks and I have it warranty replaced...

I'm just curious as to how much of the personalization Buck does, and how much Cabela's does. One of these just passed through my hands; in a yellow Buck box. Not a Cabela's box. That leads me to believe that Cabela's buys the built-up knife from Buck and has it enameled by someone under contract to them. Not a big point, I just like to know these things... :D

TxTroubleMaker, well you are in trouble now...especially thinking that you need just another folder. Preston

Why not get a Wal-Mart/Academy/K-Mart 110 and have it re-bladed by Buck to BG-42??? Approx the same price as Cabela's, but *BG-42* steel!!! ;) :D

Trax, that's just one of the things I like about you:).

They come in a yellow Buck box. mine's labeled B110-SP73-0, dated 11/29/04.

I thinking that if Buck was to fix it, reblade it, it would be with a plain s30v 110 blade...maybe coated, maybe not, if not available then BG-42. I'm just guessing here. I don't see how they could be responsible for that &%#$ logo.

As good as Cabelas is about things like that you might get a new knife from them.

Hmmm...but Buck will have drop point 110 blades in s30v...how sweet would that be:thumbup: Preston

Tx,,,110's are like potato(e) chips. You cant have just one. It has been said "Resistance is Futile" And good choice on the Vanguard! One of my favorite.

Welcome to the Buck forum!!

YES!!! Looks just like one of mine, Get a rubber handle if you plan on a user Vanguard.

At least it won't take you more than 35 or 40 minutes to hit Cabellas.

Where'd you hear that???

Isn't the BCCI 110 with a drop point blade in s30v???? Now, I didn't say that they would be generally available...it was meant tongue-in-cheek but maybe will be:foot: :D :D Preston

Last year I sent in a knife with a broken tip for a BG-42 blade replacement. Joe Houser emailed me and said they had no BG-42 left due to the move but had some old Cabela's S30V blades lying around and would I mind if they put on an S30V blade instead. I said sure, why not. :) When I got the knife back, I could see where they had buffed the black coating off and a nice shiny S30V blade was left. That knife is now my standard 110 EDC.

You did it now Mike,,,,now you have to put up a pic of it,,,, but, but, well, never mind cause now it looks like a regular 110... :) I bet it Looks good!

Tx TroubleMaker,,, if you can, go through the Cabellas 110's and see if there any with the Idaho Tang Stamp. Mine all had the 2004 year tang mark.... The Vanguards have the Idaho tho...
