Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series 110

Mine also came in a yellow box, with "Buck Knives" all over it. #B110-SP73-0, dated 11/29/04. Pamphlet says "Unconditional Lifetime Warranty" . Also, "Free Lifetime Sharpening"...Send knife to: Buck Knives, Customer Service, 1900 Weld Blvd., El Cajon, CA 92020 (800) 2825. I've never actually had to do that, which says something, but it is somewhat comforting. It always amazes me, how these threads turn into cloth.:o

You did it now Mike,,,,now you have to put up a pic of it,,,, but, but, well, never mind cause now it looks like a regular 110... :) I bet it Looks good!

Tx TroubleMaker,,, if you can, go through the Cabellas 110's and see if there any with the Idaho Tang Stamp. Mine all had the 2004 year tang mark.... The Vanguards have the Idaho tho...

Will do, I gonna head out there tommorow. I'll check them out for you.

Well, here it is...doesn't look like anything special until you notice the Bos heat treat symbol with S30V written underneath. :D :D

Good looking knife!!! So far I'm very happy with the s30v steel on my other knives. I didn't get to use my Vanguard on any deer this year, but from what I hear, I should be able to go through many deer before it needs to be re-sharpened.

Tx,,, I got my Alaskan 110 and Vanguard late in the season, but managed to use it on 4 doe in the late spike/doe season. I had to retrain myself on using the Vanguard when stripping the hide off.. If I touched it wrong it would cut a hole in the hide. didn't take long to adjust and learn how to lay the blade down at a lower angle. I as yet haven't touched it up but it is still really sharp. I am sure it won't take much to bring it back to thinking it is a razor. I am waiting on another S30V fixed blade Buck to get here. Will do a comparesom on them later. Clip versus Drop point.

I am drooling now Mike!!! thanks for putting up the pic... Definitely not the run of the mill 110. Wish that blade was available as a norm. I much prefer the Satin/polished.

Thanks again

OK...I suddenly feel the need to own a 110 with that Bos motiff on the blade. Do the customs have that or just the Alaskan Guides?

Nuther question: Could folks with Alaskan Guides send them to Buck to get the same blade finish as Mike K.'s . i.e. to have the blade refinished down to bare metal?

All of this talk about the 110 is making want to re-look at this knife. I really like the Alaskan Guide series knives, good quality and excellent steel. I ended up getting the Vangaurd fixed blade hunter, but I'm starting to think that I may be needing another folder!:)
I'm the other way around. Have the 110, but am thinking about the S30V Vanguard now. I already have a Vanguard in ATS-34 though.

I agree about the S30V. I'd have two or three sent in for blade replacements in a heartbeat if S30V was an option.

...Gotta tell you what I tried last week. My son-in-law has a small Sears Craftman sandblaster. He musta paid all of $50 dollars for the thing. We took out his 110, it had the standard ground finish we are all familiar with...we smoothed out the grinder lines with some 600 then 2000 wet/dry first... We loaded the blaster up with some fine walnut and blasted away at the new 110 that I gave him for Christmas. I finished it off with some good ol' peanut shells that we ran thru a food-processor a few times and   ...VIOLA!!!...  It has the most beautiful satin finish ...LMAO...Can't wait til I get a scanner to toss up some pics...:D

Pack Rat, Just got home from Cabela's, the only 110's they had were the Alaskan Guide Series knives. They're supposed to get a shipment of more knives next week, so I guess I'll just have to go back to Cabela's again. :D

Don't aim at the wood...That's why I'm putting Elkodon stag on my no-dot 110...the walnut shells ate the wood away... :(

  ...LOL...we did it already Trax...I knew what shell could do to wood and I made up shields from tuna cans that wrapped around the brass and right up against the blade and covered the wood. Lotsa cuttin' and fittin' with aviation clippers but it worked out great...:D

Electrical tape would have been sufficient. I used to etch beer bottles with a sand blaster and electricians tape..."USGP, Watkins Glen, 1979"... :D

 :D ...See???...Another tip for me to make something a bit easier...I figured it would eat thru tape and I over-designed again...Thanks Trax...:D

Mike -

Is that an actual Cabela's Alaskan 110 that has been polished/bead blasted/whatever??? Or is it a Custom Shoppe 110 w/S30V???

I like it. I wonder if that is the same coating I blasted off my 426...

Trax,
It's an old "workman" 110 that I sent in for a blade upgrade. Joe Houser had it fitted with an S30V blade that they had laying around since they had no more BG-42 blades available due to the pending move to Post Falls.

You didn't buy an Alaskan 110???  Those are the best!! S30V steel!!! If you are wanting a regular 110 head over to the Super Wally and see if they have any left in the Tins. Or head down to SA and see if they have an Academy.

I guess I am confused,,, thought you were going after an Alaskan 110. I get confused lately,,,

I wish we were as close to that Cabellas as you are.

Right before I was going to buy the 110, I called the wifey to see if she wanted/needed anything from Cabela's, she then informed me that she was just given a Cabela's gift card with more than a few dollars on it. So, I'll go back tommorow and buy it with free money!!! And yes it is nice to have a Cabela's within 30mins of the house. It'll be even better when the Bass Pro Shops that is being built in San Antonio is done!!!:D

Okay...I've decided to get an Alaskan 110 from Cabela's. Take off the gold logo so I can be like Mike. It is certain to be my EDC given the specs and looks...that'll preserve my current EDC rotation for my kids to sell on e-bay someday.
Question: what is the diff between the standard 110 on the Cabela site Vs. their Pro-Line 110 besides the etching, FG, and $14 BUCKaroos????

Er...I think you'll have to do a bit more to look like Mike's...Maybe blast or buff all that gray stuff off...might be kind of hard to buff down to the sharp edge by the bolster...blasting's your best bet...

But you probably meant just taking the logo off... ;)
