Well I recently went to a new Cabelas that has opened up. There were 3 things that I went in looking for but I also just wanted to browse. First we walk in and the place is decorated amazing. There are tons of mounted heads included a mountain scene with full sized bears.
So right off the bat I get to the gun section, the main reason I went in the first place. I am greeted by about 3-4 employees and one man looking at a chromed revolver. Now this revolver has the cylinder closed and the mans finger is on the trigger while it is pointed off to the side...directly at another employee. Right away I took a few steps back and then preceded to see the man swing the revolver and start to dry fire it a few times. The store employee then talked about how he could put in weaker springs or wait for the revolver to break in to reduce the trigger pull. I walk away in a daze not sure if I am seeing or hearing right and go look at some of the used guns they have.
The area of used guns is very small for the amount of new guns they have. But going through the couple of racks I found a few used Wingmasters, one of the things I was looking for, but the price wasn't very good. Also all of the actions of the weapons were zip-tied closed. This seemed weird as they are usually zip-tied open. Also I was never asked for an FOID card, even though there was a sign saying you needed to provide a FOID card to handle any weapon. Not seeing any Marlin Model 60s out in either the used gun section or the Marlin section, I decided to ask the employee. Here is how the conversation went
Me-I didn't see any Marlin Mod 60s out there, do you have any?
Cabelas Employee-A What?
Me-A Marlin Model 60
CE-What is that?
Me-...uhh...Marlin....22lr....tubular magazine...autoloader....
CE-Never heard of it
Me-(dumbfounded)
CE-(asks another employee)Yeah we don't have any autoloaders from Marlin
Me-Oh
CE-We have bolt action and lever action...Like the 39A

At this point I figured I must have made some mistake or confused the manufacture or something so I thanked the man for his help. While still in Cabela's I decided to confirm my sanity by calling a couple of my other local gun shops. One said right off the bat that he had some Marlin mod 60 in stock and asked if I wanted him to hold one for me. The other store said that they sold out so fast that they are now backordered.

So now that I knew I wasn't going crazy I deiced to venture over to the knife section...this was a bad bad mistake. I saw a total of 2 Benchmades, no SOG Spyderco or anything else of value. There were a few way overpriced kitchen knives, a ton of Gerber crap and some brand-x fixed blades.

Overall I am disappointed. I have a hard time bashing them since they did have a good stock of guns, especially shotguns and maybe 4 or 5 AR pattern rifles. But the obvious failure to enforce safety rules and the stupidity made me leave with a weird feeling. I have to say I will most likley never be back to this store.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

yeah the only thing of value that ive found in the knives are a D2 Griptillian and an S30V Buck 110 the others they can keep to themselves. I have a better selection where i work, Sportsman's Warehouse.
