This is the 1st thing I've made with my new press.. What a difference a press makes!!! This hawk started out as a 2" thick cable.. Horse hair and sinew for decorations...

That hawk is sweet  How long did it take on the new toy ? I couldnt even imagine doing 2" cable by hand :barf:

Joe, I did one billet from cable to 1" square by hand, it took over an hour.. this took 30 minutes from cable to a rough forged blade, Still had to drift the eye... I'm thinking up some dies that will help with that part as well..

Thanks for the comments !! I need to decide on a sheath style for this hawk, any Ideas?? David, definitely get a splitter, it wasn't a hard conversion at all..

Legeto1, I used a 35 ton gas powered log splitter.. Look for the thread called converting a splitter that I started a few weeks ago.

Bruce, I drifted it by hand. If you have any Ideas for drifting dies I would like to here about it.. BTW a friend came over to see the hawk, I explained that it was cable damascus. He said it's real cool but what are all the little cracks from????!!!!!

My drift is too long for the press so I cut it in half. I havent tried it yet but I think it will work.
