cable hawk

really awesome post! and good looking future bladesmith btw! So if i might ask what did the whole shebang run you? (the press and materials, not the little one!,hehe)

I looked at your thread about your press and its awesome, i hope to create something like that one day but for now i think il start small (gonna try to make a propane forge first)

Kevin, I am not very patient so I bought the biggest log splitter that I could find locally. The splitter cost me $1600.00 at tractor supply, I also bought longer hoses from them so I could put the engine outside. I looked at other splitters online but this one has a 12.5hp industrial/commercial engine. I know that I could have saved a lot of money if I had looked around for a used splitter, but like I said I'm not very patient and I didn't want to take a chance that a used one may be damaged. I wanted to build a press not work on a old log splitter for a week..All of the steel for the modification was free scraps from work (I'm an ironworker)..It was a pretty easy project..

How is the speed of the press? Do you have any problems with being able to get enough work accomplished with each heat (for example, when making your first welds or when drawing out the billet)? I'm curious because I thought the thread on construction of the press was really good, and it's kind of got me thinkin'... Also - that hawk is really sweet. Nice work!
