California smog 1911 pictures added

When was that built?

Are you still an apprentice?

How many rounds have been run through it?

Suggested sales price? (Not an offer to buy.)

Tell us more about what you did that makes it special.

This build took me around one year and a half to complete I was only able to work on this during down time. It was test fired prior to hard chrome and was 100% reliable. Around 100 rounds. This was finished 2 weeks ago.

I currently am still an apprentice with Dave's Metal Works.

This was my first build and a huge test in my craftsmanship. There are some minor finish blemishes where I could have taken more time smoothing surface areas. Also one spot where the welder got carried away and melted a tiny spot of my checkering near the magwell.

I'd say it's around $2150 if I was to sell it.

Extreme care was taken to ensure the best accuracy was achieved with out sacrificing reliability. I will hopefully be testing this side by side against a brand new Night Hawk GRP.
I'll post pictures

Very nice looking piece. Though I would alter. the handle grips. Look to thick, but i have never held that piece of history before. So ignore me on that part. Faux ivory or mother of peril comes to mind, for some reason. Or maybe even a parkerized and checkered steel plate.

I agree my hands are too small 😢 I already sent Garth a email regarding making them rougher and thinner

Thanks to everyone for your kind comments! A great deal of time and hard work went into this, but it was a labor of love. Can't wait for my next project.

Nice work, I think you did a fine job. Two things I would have done differently would be to get rid of the rail and chamber in .45ACP. I might also have tried to match the trigger with the hammer or the hammer and trigger to the barrel for aesthetics if the greyed out/semi two-tone look is what was desired. With that said; this wasn't my build and all that matters is that you're happy with your work, it runs, and it doesn't blow off your hand. :D

Nice. I am not that much into the gold color but that is owner opinion.
I would love to build one.

First though, very cool gun and nice work

Second thought, ewwwww, 40

:p

I am only going to give it two thumbs up, primarily because I don't have three thumbs!

Nice!

best

How do you keep the grips from falling off? Ha, ha! Seriously, it looks great. I prefer 45acp without a rail. But that is just my choice. But I need to try some of the Henie 8 sights. Nice job!

That is so cool! There's nothing like a hand-fitted 1911...that you build yourself. Great job!!! Very nice!!

That answers most of my questions. :)

My first attempt was similar to putting together an AR. The first time through it was pretty bad, but I worked on it until it was extremely reliable and very accurate. It's still a great shooter very practical user but not the high-end I'd hoped to build.

Then I bought a Wilson Combat with all the options I wanted and some expensive specialty tools. I measured and measured, shot and shot, took apart, inspected, and put back together. I set out to build almost an exact copy, and did with a very few differences, such as the finishes.

It was close enough to perfect for me. Except I began wanting different calibers and colors for different things, so I bought a few more high-end customs and built several more.

Thank you so much for everyone's positive feedback! I built this pistol in 40cal because it's a little cheaper to shoot and still has great stopping power, also meets power factor for matches

Appreciate your coming back and addressing that. I have no problem with 40--can think of 8 models I've owned over time--but it is almost never seen in a 1911. The ultimate for me would be 10mm and more of a "copper" tone to the TiN as opposed to "gold." Not sure if that's even possible, but FWIW...and I know people who've had to shoot "hard" targets with handguns. I'm told the 10 is the only pistol caliber that can compare to 357 or 44 for penetration in that scenario. I know it sure slams deer.

One of my favorites . It actually was my #1 for a while but the glock 32 (.45) is so compact and so accurate it took my #1 spot for now , although I believe there is a compact 1911 now , need to get my hands on one

I'm just not a 40 person overall, there's only 1 gun to me that just seems acceptable in a 40, and that's a Hi Power :)

But, 180gr subs shooting suppressed, I could get behind a 40.

Can we get a close up of the front strap?
