Thanks
I'm swamped with work. Just don't have the time. I will be watching as there are many expert heat treaters participating in this testing.

That would be very good!I don’t have a source for s7 here. If you want to send me some, I’ll heat treat it and send it to Larrin.
PM an address to send it to with the size/thickness you need. I can send a piece of S7 and CPM 1V. I only have 1V in 0.290/0.300 and I believe 0.207, have to check on that one.I don’t have a source for s7 here. If you want to send me some, I’ll heat treat it and send it to Larrin.

Thanks, I got almost 80 pounds of 1V and a load of S7.A true gentleman, Scott!![]()
Had to special order 1V from Niagara. Bought two sheets. They don't stock it in bar stock. 1V is insanely tough.

I’m pretty sure both steels will be much tougher yet at Rc58-60. It’ll be interesting to see how 15n20, 80crv2 and L6 compare. It looks like 3v is very tough, but not in the same league as z-tuff and 8670.
Yep. Haven't tried Z-tuff yet.So still a lover of crazy tough steel, eh?Have you tried the Z-Tuff yet?
3v is not in the same league as well heat treated 5160, 8670, Ztuff, 1v, S7, A8mod (we will see in the tests) and NZ3 (S1). Good steel, no doubt, for a medium sized knife, though.
As we have not seen the S7 test yet, do you think that 8760 and 5160 are in the same range?
Yes, I think. 8670 revealed to be a bit tougher. But they may be equally tough, we shouldn’t forget that 5160 heat treatment included cryo and 8670 didn’t. Some RA could be the reason 8670 was above 5160, regarding toughness.
I’m sure the nickel in ztuff contributes to the toughness. But so does the cpm technology. I’m thinking ztuff at 58 will be way ahead of most of these steels. What I’m really liking about this steel, is the ability to run it harder then usual, and retain that crazy toughness! I think it’ll be an awesome steel for a nice thin hunter/skinner. Run around 62 rc, and it’ll still be plenty durable. So we are still waiting for the results of the L6 and 15N20 tests so we can see if nickel truly rules!!!!![]()
