Ok, so I own a Benchmade Griptilian 551s from 2007ish. I was wondering what types of abuse you guys have put your knife through and how the knife (scales, blade and lock) have held up.

I have a M2 Ritter Mini Grip and it does everthing I ask which is cut. I don't abuse my knives. That said I think it will hold up very well for you.

I am a machine builder, and my knives go through the same use as all of my tools in my toolbox. I have had Griptilians since 2004, and currently use a D2 551 and a 154CM 550. I use them both for cutting cardboard, plastic ties, pneumatic tubing, hydraulic hose, and copper wire. Griptilians are very tough, I have never had a breakage, and the grip is plenty comfortable without the abrasive texture of G-10. I don't ever abuse my knife, I don't pry or drive screws with it, but I cut everything I need to cut with them and they have never failed in the least. When I need to cut something that will hurt a knife I have a drawer full of shears, utility knives, chisels, wire cutters, and bolt cutters. I would categorize my knives in the same category as my files: You can cut what they are meant to cut all day long and they will dull over time, or you can try to cut something to hard and make them imminently useless. Enjoy your Griptilian, it's a fantastically designed and executed knife!

I have a 2001 Grip 551ODSBK that saw 6 years of military use including deplyments, never had a problem and its the old 440 steal... still going strong.

I lent my grip to a co-worker. She ran off and when she came back she was carrying a piece of wood that was held on the wall with 16 gage steel wire. She cut that wire with my grip. it put a little chip in the blade.

Thats it? Did ya get it out? Jeeze. Im just worried about ruining the blade to the point where i myself cant repair it.

Mine has held up better than I thought it would. I wasn`t impressed with the plastic scales, But they have held up just fine. Good knife.

UGH! Why do all thier coated grip have a combo edge???

I got a combo edge non coated and i didn't even want a combo but oh well. I mean, it comes in handy sometimes and it can handle w.e i need and it has more pe than ce, i just like the looks of pe. If this sounds like a firstgraders writing its because my gf is talking to me and i can't put good sentences together! lol

Benchmade doesn't do it because it's the worst selling combination. Lucky for you Doug Ritter is around and he had his Ritter Grips done in that combination anyway.

I used my abused grip 551 for a day and used it as a thrower at some pallets and it worked out great..

That's probably because you're smart enough not to swallow them! :D

Well there was that one time…umm…never mind.

I’ve had a few grips like them ok. But the endura always appealed to me more for some reason. Don’t know why.

I use my mini-Grip for maintenance projects around the house. I don't cut metal, but I do cut pretty much everything else (wood, plastic, rope, twine, cardboard). Never had a problem.

I have a 551SBKSN and I have chopped branches and concrete accidentally, stabbed it into a palm tree, used the handle to hammer closed paint lids, cut lots of irrigation tubing and rope, and I used it to dig and pry this moss stuff one weekend. The coating is mostly gone, the edge has some chips that I am slowly working out, the handle has held up well except the butt that I use for hammering. There is still no blade play, the action is as smooth as when I first got it (wasnt all that smooth to begin with), and it still gets sharp when I sharpen it. Its held up great.

same here,,

though one time 1 did drop my D2 onto the floor a small point of the blade broke off :(,,,reground it back though,,:D

the 154 holds up pretty well huh? im not accustomed to 154. How does it hold a sharp edge cutting fishing line and tape and paper and normal stuff like that over a month?
