Calling BUSHMAN5, and all vest Owners!

There are a few things about vests that irk me. 1, the obvious rediculous tacticool look. 2, how do they wear loaded with a pack? that you just don't know. It may be uncomfortable as hell once you throw a 60 pound pack on over it, or worse yet the shoulder straps ride on a pocket. 3, breathability. My back already sweats like crazy on a warm day with a pack on it. How will it do when suffocated by nylon? If I got some sort of load bearing vest it would be a fisherman's style, probably a Kakadu-with 5 or 6 pockets up front and light canvas material or mesh back.

- like Fonly i dont give a rats butt what it looks like. My carrying needs outweigh the perceptions of others.

- why would you throw a 60 lb pack over a chest rig? I got my chest rig to replace my pack.

- i sweat like a pig when hiking, mostly on my back and pits. backpacks exacerbate it 100 fold. With the chest rig i can hike lite and fast, and my clothing doesn't soak out. I do get sweat on the front wher ethe chest rig sits, but its NOTHING like when i wear a pack.

EDIT: also, with the chest rig, i NEVER need to take it off, unlike a pack. Everything, and i mean everything is right there for me to access. Plus map reading is easy as the Admin panel flips down to view the map. I can run with it and it doesn't flop around like my pack, nor does it snag up on fallen timbers when i crawl under them.

Oh, thing right quick bushman.

Have you tried your 5.11 6.6 medic pouch on the Mini Mav?

Il thinking I might go with this just because I can get those pouchs and everything for a little cheaper.

I don't think I can shell that much out for the Warlord, a couple things came up and I'm thinking I should maybe just hold off for a bit......

If I can get the Mini mav to work, I would be happy. I would carry it like you had shown a while ago, under the left arm.

though not really my style, i kind of like the looks of that Mini MAV.. could be made into a nice little set up....:)

Well, couple things to this.

1. Dont care about the look, I could wear pink while on duty, but I think that would turn more heads.

2. I've allready warn the other vest with a pack, it I rides fine, if you vest and pack have enough padding your good. Also, dont have a 60lbs pack, so I can't say about that.
3. about the sweating, not much I can do about that, again, I need something that works, if that means I have to seat a little more, and drink a little more water, than so be it. I would rather have the essentials and be a bit sweaty than dry with out crap to keep my alive.

I did however try the Fishing style vest, and that worked well. The only thing was it was hard to place gear, a radio, and other implements could not be added on to the vest, and I was stuck with the pockets it had, it wasn't really set-up for military use after all.

Either you're the luckiest guy to ever be in any branch of Armed Service or you just haven't weighed your gear yet. lol A 60 lb load out is not even a decently heavy load by most military standards.

Also, if you're looking for a truly tacticle LBV that can be adapted to specific missions you can find lots of other options. I hope you find what you're looking for though, nothings worse than being in the field with crappy gear.

No guys, I've had it loaded that much, for training, doing the whole run thing with a 60lbs ruck. But when Im actually on patrol in northern canada, or on a search you have to remember that I will allways have a skidoo, a quad or something that carrys the majority of my gear. Wall tent, chainsaw everything.

When I pack for my self, its fairly light. I would think all together with my pack, knife everything on me it might all weigh 40lbs when fully loaded for a sar mission.

When im on my own, I might have 15, imcluding food and water.

Thats right.

I do my part in canada, and I stay here. While im not over in Afghanistan, I still have a part to do here. Combat Armor is not needed, but what is needed is something to carry my essentials for everything from Training, to Providing my skill's in a natural disaster, or a run of the mill SAR mission.

So in other words, yes Im lucky.

That Delta 5 looks promising, looks like I need to do a bit more digging.:D

I have had alot of good times with Canadian Air Force blokes that I went to school with. Everyone gave em shit for their northern/French accents but growing up in Wisconsin we were always in the same boat. They were very capable at their job and even better drinking buddies. I can't think of a time stateside that if I needed some sort of equipment carrier it was less than 60lb, but if a vest is all you need, good on ya.

Its not all I need, Im looking for something to carry some basics to keep it off my belt, I have packs to carry what I need in the field.

Mneedham, that would work if it was not so bulky at the bottom, I was looking for something that rides high, and is form fitting.

Thanks for the pics though, if It were under different cirsumstances that would be the one for sure.

This is the Main one I have now, this with my FalconII works great, but I was hoping to retire this, and just carry some basics on me.

I think it was your main one that inspired me too get the Arktis, although I haven't used it. I've been using a Camelbak Hawg lately...

I think tactical BRO or MANZIER sums it up, save yourself from the taunting and pick another vest brother!!!!

All in fun man, just saw the seinfeld episode again and could not help myself. hiked in australia with a large fishing vest before, camelbak in the huge back pocket and possibles in the pockets for the day. No sweaty back.

Speaking of vests...I got a large old 100% nylon LL bean travel vest that I don't use. Does anyone want to buy it off me for $20 plus shipping? Its very well made

I actually put in an order for a Silverthrone a week ago. I can't wear a normal pack due to multiple surgeries on my chest and shoulders (long story short, got the side of my head caved in with a baseball bat, lost all memory below age 11, major and only permanent side effect is debilitating migraines, had electrodes put all over my head under the scalp, eventually got staph, lost two battery packs and 8 sets of wires, I still have a battery set in my chest and a backpack even loaded with a hip belt pulls on the area too much)

(ok so it was still long)

So basically over the last few months while I recovered from surgery ( I've had 8 since last july when the staph was first discovered, each subsequent surgery is to take more infected tissue and equipment out) I've been looking at fully modular vests vs hunting vest vs so called survival vests and I came to the conclusion that that a Silverthrone will give me more than enough space for all my gear, and buying whats basically a Warlord 4 chest rig with the pouches already attached and paid for instead of dropping serious coin on after market pouches from any reputable company.

So I bit the bullet and ordered a HSGI Silverthrone, and an Eagle MOLLE belt to just mess around with and see if I can use that during the hotter months when a vest might be too much.

A Silverthrone as worn by a plastic tactical operator, it has PLENTY of room for what I need to carry and has two sets of detachable pouches if I don't want to use them or don't need them for a particular trip.

Eagle Belt, which OPtac is having a problem getting in the XXL size cus Eagle is having problems. I went for XXL cus it'll have more MOLLE coverage than the belt that would fit me snug, the XL, atleast thats my reasoning for it right now not knowing if thats true or not lol

This is like my last ditch hope to be able to get back into the mountains without having a "babysitter" carry my stuff, I loathe hiking with others, hiking and camping is me time and I haven't had much me time in a couple years cus of all the junk that happened.

Yeah I looked up maybe 20 different belts and that one looked the best and seemed to give the best option in size and carrying capacity. I'll do a writeup on both whenever Eagle decides to send the belt from the factory

*sigh* I'm losing valuable early fall, tree changing, rutt going on time cus of a stupid germ that happily lives on everyones skin and nostrils but mine, how I became so susceptible to this strain of staph is beyond me..

Fonly - here's my input FWIW. I've experimented with different vests over recent years. I like the idea of having stuff accessible to me without stopping and dumping my pack.

Currently I use an HSGI mesa vest from Practical Tactical. I use it for civilian SAR. I also wear it during my day/training hikes. Here it is with a variety of different utility pouches mounted on it.

I have it loaded up with more stuff than I probably would for just W&SS activities. So here are a couple of pictures (not mine) of just the vest.

The vest has its own hydration pocket, as well as internal pockets. It's constructed of very stiff mesh that softens with use...a lot of use. It's made by HSGI specifically for Practical Tactical. Overall I like it and find it very functional.

I looked at that also, the back panel put me off, I'd think it would be extremely hot and make you sweat more in high temps, 80+ which is half the year here, but it'd be nice for winter when it's 20 the other half of the year.

are we talking overnight walks with this stuff? or military use? Looks cool, but where does sleeping gear/ insulative clothing/ food go?
