I was asked to participate in a new television show that features bladesmithing in a competition setting. We did the pilot this past summer & the show has been picked up by the network... now we need competitors. Think "Chopped" with an anvil, come on a cool new TV show on a major network and show your skills!

I was asked to spread this around from the production company...
NOW CASTING: BLADE EXPERTS AND ENTHUSIASTS FOR NEW COMPETITION SERIES!
Are you a Weapons Master?
Do you handcraft the best blades in the world?
Do you have a competitive edge, and will you stop at nothing to be the best?
Would you like to showcase your talents on the national stage for a shot at a CASH PRIZE?
If so, we want to hear from you!
A major cable network is currently searching nationwide for charismatic weapons experts, enthusiasts, and engineers looking to showcase their weaponry manufacturing skills on an exciting new competition series. This thrilling new project will focus on experts that pride themselves on producing the best blades in the world, whether they be historical or modern, large or small.
If interested, please email: alex.graves@leftfieldpictures.com with your name, age, location, contact information, photo and a brief explanation of your expertise and we will contact you with further information.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Notice they have produced for ESPN, A&E, and History Channel (Pawn Stars).. Will the show air on the History Channel?

I haven't been told which channel it will be yet but, it'll be one we're all familiar with. Everyone was kind of 'iffy' before the pilot but, everything worked out fantastic & it was highly entertaining.... even for folks who knew nothing about forging/knives & it was a full blown drama for those that do.

Looking forward to watching it.. Am sure will learn a great deal and should bring in a lot of new people to the 'knife enthusiast' world.

I look forward to seeing this show. I was contacted by them but honestly assumed it was a scam or a hoax and ignored it without looking into it. I dont think i am near good enough for anything like this anyway so its not like i missed out i suppose.

After receiving this offer last week, I emailed Alex with some questions and had a reply.

The show will be on the "Chopped" format, with four people competing at the network's "Home Forge". They will be given three forging projects to complete in a short time frame, and one smith will be eliminated after each challenge. There will be a substantial cash prize equivalent to the one given in chopped. There will also be a film crew doing a shoot at your home forge while you make a high quality finished piece (I assume that would be the winner).

From what I got in his reply, this is for forging folks.

I have sent my info and will wait and see what happens. I may call him and get you chaps some more info.

Stacy, they shoot footage (usually) at all of the chefs restaurants, or homes if they are caterers. If it's in the style of Chopped, I'd guess they'll probably want to shoot at the forgers home/shop. They use the footage as bumpers for the introduction of the personalities.

This is exciting. :)

Everyone works in their own different way.

That would be tough, having to work in their shop, without your own tools- without your hammer

They will be building a forge for the contestants to work in. I spoke with Alex today. It's not the kind of thing that I do.

This could be a great opportunity to raise the industry's profile and get some mainstream attention. Not to mention the real potential for your own business to increase significantly. I for one hope the forum forgers are well represented :)

I think it would be better if they modeled it after Cutthroat Kitchen instead of Chopped. I could come up with all kinds of auction challenges.
"If you win this auction you can force your fellow competitors to make their blade........"

"Using this Yankee Candle as their only source of heat"
"Using this bowling ball as their anvil"
"Using this rubber mallet as their only striking tool"
"Using this single 2000 Grit Belt for all grinding"

There could be hundreds of good sabotages.

Rick,
I know it hurts, but it is for the public good. There would be all the shots and quarantine for Nova Scotia Sleeping Sickness, and all the other ice borne diseases.
Anyway, you would be miserable down where the average temp is 70°F ( that is 21°C to you Canucks).
