Yes, the one with the burgundy handle looked very nice. I want one. So many knives, so few pockets!

The Burgundy version was a "concept knife," as opposed to a "prototype," so no pictures. Ask about the Bradichansky credit card knife and the anti-auto-ulu.

Thanks for adding the tipdown carry lightweight Calypso. My prefered carry position is in the waistband over my right hip. I feel a bit more comfortable with tipdown in this position.

I suggested in another thread and I'll repeat here, this knife really needs a new name. "New Calypso Jr. Lightweight" is just too much of a mouthful, especially when this looks like it is going to be the sole surviving member of the Calypso family.

Let's suggest some names for Sal to ponder. I've already suggested Tango (carrying on the dance theme) or Habañero (carrying on the Caribean theme). Any other thoughts?

Yes, Calypso (again) is a nymph!!! Mixing nymphs and knives (or knymphs and nives) can be hazardous.

I always thought that a more niche-oriented name (a la "Military," "Police," and "Rescue) or a clitter-oriented name (a la "Dragonfly," "Harpy," etc.) would work better; but "Calypso" is starting to grow on me. Now that it (she) has scales, did it/she turn into a mermaid?

I also like the Calypso name, but if we're doing an ocean-going theme here, how about a model called the Poseiden(sp?) or the Aquarius or the Pisces?
Just a thought.

Pisces would be a good name for the new knife for the Commercial fishermen, don't you think, Sal?

I was thinking musically -- Reggae is the closest music to Calypso, so maybe that should be it's new name...

I want one before hunting season.
As a name you could just call it a
"Calypso Lite"

The knife agrees with me so how about
"Sympatico"

Option 1. If you have a gun shoot him."

Four things I really LIKE about this new Calypso:

1/ The ambi clip placement - thanks from a lefty!

2/ Recessed lock back - prevents accidental release!

3/ "fish" scale - secure and looks cool!

4/ Flat ground - cuts and slices through and through!

One thing I HATE about this new knife:

1/ Its not in my hand!

You've got another winna, Spyderco!

Four things I like about this knife:
1. VG10 alloy.
2. I can remove clip and discard.
3. Small and thin enough for a gentlemanly
carry.
4. VG10 alloy.

I like Calypso, because it reminds me of Jaques Cousteau (the name of his research vessel, wasn't it?).

Anyway, as for new name, how about Zydeco....?

Following the "women of the Odyssey" theme, could we call it the "Circe?"

I already think that would run into trouble by being mispronounced by most dealers/buyers (like the folks who say Nike without the hard "e"), but at least its fitting the mythological genre that the Calypso series and Pegasus started.

How about the "Siren?" (thanks to my girlfriend for that one).

The Calypso series is already in name trouble because most folks call the "Calypso Jr." the "Calypso" - maybe discontinuing the large one will reduce this difficulty (though it still makes me sad - we need a liteweight, tip-down Calypso!).

How did the Greek mythology names get started anyhow?

, but what about the colour? IMHO this is such an elegant design, it deserves to be in a colour other than black. A different colour would make it less tactical looking and more suitable as a "gentleman's" (gentleperson's

) knife.

Sal, is there any chance of the burgundy concept model going into production? What about a limited run only sold through Ironstone (or the BF Store)? I will buy one anyway but the coloured one is the one I really want in my pocket.

Clay - Not my Yob. It's a full time job just getting to first article. Michelle's call. Depends on demand. We had mixed reaction to the burgundy color. Many seem to feel that the color thing would be ok if the color was very dark. A batch might be possible, but we would have to pre sell half a batch before we would build it.

.. oh, the fifth thing I like about the new Calypso is the "deep pocket" carry clip placement.

Fair enough Sal, I'll start pestering Michelle

. I promise to buy one or two but I think half batch is a bit beyond me

. At least I can keep dreaming about the burgundy scales on the Chinese folder

Sal - when is this one expected to be available, or has that been decided? It looks irrisistable.

Thanks,

Jack
