Many seem to feel that the color thing would be ok if the color was very dark.
I wouldn't want it to be
gaudy, but it sure would be nice to have a nice, muted, classy color other than black. I don't yet know the price point you're aiming for, but I'm assuming that you want something a bit higher than the Endura, but less expensive than the Micarta Calypso Jr, right? I would probably buy a "Calypso Jr. Lite" (I still say it needs a better name
) in that price range in black, but I wouldn't be in a huge hurry. In a more attractive color (burgundy, forest green, ?) I might buy 3 or 4. I can see giving those as presents, even to some of my female relatives. In black, they would just not have that much eye-appeal to someone who is not a knife nut and who wouldn't know CPM-440V from 440A "surgical stainless steel". And for someone who is a knife nut, how many black Zytel knives do we need? Yes, this is a very nice design, but I am not sure that it would become my everyday carry and I don't see that a black one would have the pizazz to be a knife for "special occasion" carry.
I have no doubt at all that this knife will sell, even in black, but I really think it will sell very well in a nice color too. I understand what you said about the differing opinions on the burgundy color, but keep in mind that to make a batch of burgundy would cost nothing in terms of tooling and the strong reactions you are getting are, IMHO, a good indication that there are plenty of us who want something different. If the burgundy was too bright, it could be made darker and still look non-black.
