Camillus EDC Passaround - SIGNUP

Hello Fella's

The Camillus EDC is now cleaned, tuff clothed, and boxed up waiting to go out in the mail when I get up Friday morning. I would like to thank Dave for giving me this opportunity to check out the EDC.

Heads up John in Boise, she's on her way to you!! :D

Hi all,

Here is the tracking number from USPS for the EDC . . .

0302 2940 0000 6146 5686

So Now John in Boise can watch it as it approaches :)

Should be delivered by Tuesday

Thanks, Greymoor.

I have a suggestion as people may be uncomfortable having their snail address available from the tracking number.

You can also email the next person directly if you want, I'm now sending the email address on the info sheet.

I sent the EDC to Steven Roos (formerly known as "im2smrt4u") today, so you should see it by the weekend, Steven.

Well, I'm donning my Nomex suit, because I have to say that I didn't like this knife at all. I've never owned a folder with a metal handle and, after taking it out of the package, which had been setting outside on my back step, it was freezing cold and all I could do was stick it in my pocket to warm up. I don't think I will be buying any metal handled knives in the future. Which works for me because I'm mostly a fixed blade kinda guy.

After the knife had warmed up, I immediately tried to open it with one hand. That's what you're supposed to do, right? I found it very clumsy to open, even after a number of tries. Ergonomically, this knife is set up completely wrong for my medium sized, short fingered hands. So, that pretty much settled it for me. And please, don't, as someone did recently, anyone tell me that it's "operator error", because that would be pure BS. I am not uncoorndinated or inept at these types of things. I own lots of knives with thumbstuds and I have never had to practice. A number of those knives fit my hand so well and open so easily and naturally, that it seems like they open themselves. I practiced with this knife until I could get it open most of the time, until I sliced the callus on my thumb, and that, I thought, was enough. Why wait until I draw blood, right? LOL

No offense to D. Ralph, but he designed this knife for someone other than me. Every design can't be for everyone. And I don't think a person should have to practice until a knife can be opened without fumbling each time.

I did like the look of the knife, aesthetically, especially the shape of the blade. It also was *very* easy to sharpen on my Sharpmaker and took a wicked edge. The recurve was no problem at all. My 2 cents. Hopefully Steven will find it more to his liking. Thanks again for the opportunity, Dave.

It came today...took a lot longer than I would have expected...go figure...

Here are my first impressions:

1. The detent is too strong. It takes too much effort to open. However, once you are past the detent, it is nice and smooth.

2. Nice, strong lock and no blade play. Very nice for a fairly inexpensive folder. Not to hard to unlock either.

3. Good handle ergonomics. Its a fairly small knife (to my standards) but it fits my larger hands very well.

4. Not a bad clip, but I think I would have prefered tip up carry.

5. 154CM isn't a bad steel for the price. It didn't come hair-popping sharp, but it would still slice paper with a little effort. Nice blade shape too.

It's in the mail Medic.

I am a real fan of the framelock and a fan of Darrel Ralph's designs. I would not hesitate to pick on of these up. The detent on this one was a bit tight and loosening it will cause blade play. Other than that it is a nice knife for the price.

I sliced a bit of paper and that's about it. I really like the recurve blade profile. Perfect for a casual EDC that is meant to be used.

Thank you DaveH and all participants.

Hey guys, I got the knife today. Thanks Dave for putting this on. First impressions.

  • Great quality knife for the money. I would highly recommend to a non-knife nut to try and bring him/her over to our side.
  • Blade shape almost identical to a Mini Commander, only smaller, and has v-ground edge. Nice recurve shape with a good amount of belly.
  • Came not too sharp. Has a very coarse edge that slices paper ok, but the hair on my arm laughs at it. It doesn't bite on my nail or the hair on my head. A light touchup on the 204 should remedy that.
  • As mentioned before, the ball detent holds the blade too much. Too hard to open with your thumb. Flicking is out of the question. The only way I can easily open this knife is if I push with my thumb on one stud, and my middle finger on the other. This knife would be perfect with the speedsafe design, not to mention more user friendly. I must say, I have really been spoiled by the Axis lock. I can't believe I din't purchase my first ones until last month. Can't picture myself ever looking back.
  • Not too keen on the tip down carry, but that is just because I have fallen in love with tip up carry recently.
  • I don't much care for the lanyard, since I can get a pretty good grip without it, and it's tip down, so the lanyard doesn't aide with drawing the knife.
  • Nice slim design with nice curves. Really fits in the pocket well, and is pleasing to look at when opened.
  • Nice and small, maybe more sheeple friendly than my 806D2.
  • I like the clip design. I like the way the holes are lined up perfectly with the holes in the handle. Just something different from the standard BM black clip (obviously not including my 921's clip).
  • Quality is excellent for a knife of this price. Absolutely no blade play, locks up tight. Only thing I notice is the blade completely rests against one scale when closed. Not centered at all.

Well, that about sums up the first impressions. Let me go sharpen this thing, and see how it performs for daily tasks.

Later,

Mike

Hey guys I shipped the knife out yesterday, so it's on it's way to TheBadGuy. Sorry for the slight delay, I just couldn't afford batteries for the thing.....Er, I mean I couldn't afford the shipping....Er, I mean, I just got really busy.;) Sorry again for the delay.

Mike

I recieved the knife today. I will keep it over the next 3 days and post my review here. Thanks again DaveH for the chance to check this folder out.:)

Ok, I received the EDC a couple of days ago and over the last three days I have played with it a good bit and here are my impressions:

-Love the Integral Frame Lock
-Action is smooth with solid lockup
-Nice 3” Recurved Blade
-Like the fact that it comes with dual thumb stud

Overall I like the knife allot. The price is right. I am not that fond of the skelotonized scales and clip, but that’s about all I can say I dislike about this one. Its not big enough for me to consider this a Primary EDC for me, however it would be a welcomed secondary EDC. During the course of the last few days, the knife has been used mostly for boxes and things of that nature and has been constantly fondled. After 3 days of extensive flicking, the blade did show wobble from side to side and had blade play from font to back as well. This was easily corrected with a quick tightening of the pivot screw. I am glad I got a chance to check it out first hand. It is a great little knife. I would like to see a version come out without the Skeltonized scales. A carbon fiber version would be awesome. Either way, this knife has made it to my want list. Thanks again. I will send this one on its way tomorrow and forward the delivery confirmation number to the next on the list.
