camillus service

textoothpk, please enlighten me as to how you came to your opinion
and then found it valuable enough to share with me? eh?
perhaps you have a horse in this race that i'm not aware of, me being new and all.
surprise, i can leave it there or have it returned.(mentioned in post#50 of this thread) i don't need to lose
my edc, to the morass of a volatile bankruptcy. they can be as unpredictable as unexploded ordinance. i'm just trying to stay ahead of the curve and was asking for advice.
i'd appreciate any help keeping this from going to the good ,the bad, and the ugly thread. "guess it all depends on whose bull is getting gored."

ulua, not to answer for Phil, as he is fully capable of answering for himself, but he, and the rest of us, come here to share and benefit from each other's hard gained knowledge and opinions. Phil, I, and many others have spent the past few years explaining to dissapointed Schrade customers where their repair knives wound up when Schrade suddenly went belly up on the beach. Many, if not most, were scarfed in the bankruptcy sale as a part of the "WIP" property, and sold wholesale to eBay dealers. In the last days of Schrade, an interesting story emerged of an engineer who, out of loyalty to the Schrade customers, and a deep personal sense of honor that was the "magic of Schrade", spent his own dwindeling funds to personally shipped knives back to customers.

perhaps this is too on topic. I would ask to have it shipped back immediately and send it to STR or someone to fix.

Well, Camillius sure needs our help. Why not let Camillius set up a donation department where people can donate money to those workers who are underpaid?

UH, I doubt Cammillus would be willing to accept donations for the strikers.

Well, they can alwas make some type of compromise for the company. If they don't the company will be gone!

The poor striking workers are recieving strike benefit pay from the union (drawn from the dues they have paid the union weekly for years), is my guess. Charity relief sent might make you feel better, but it will in no way effect the situation as far as Camillus' survival. The only way to have any effect on that is to buy Camillus knives from a primary source. Even that may be too little too late, since suppliers have already put them on C.O.D. for materials. Remember that Camillus main market has been SFO knives for other cutlerys and chain stores. When they cannot fulfill those orders (or chain stores and dealers get the "willies" and move to Case products), they will cancel their orders to Camillus. Basically, the hand has been delt, by the market, the consumers, suppliers, the bank, and now the workers. All that is left is to watch how the cards fall, and see who folds, who raises, who rakes chips. I still suggest buying from primary sellers.

dave h, who is STR? are there folks that have the diagrams of these things? it makes sense to be able to clean themwhen needed.

thanks for the reply codger. sad story.

Thank you Ms. Drake for the info. I wish Camillus and their a quick return to prosperity.

I would hate to Camillus go the way of Schrade, so today I bought a #CAMCGP7B from a cutlery store online. I hope in a small way this helps Camillus. The #CAMCGP7B looks a lot like a 5OT, I can't wait to get it.:D

I have a CAMGP152 and it is the next best thing to a genuine Schrade Sharpfinger I have seen. The whole GranPa series is good, IMHO. Who better to pick up traditional Schrade patterns than the sister company?

STR does custom work, usually on spyderco's. DO a serach for that user name.

I don't hang out here very much since my computer time is limited, but I have to say this in defense of Camillus. I don't know what is going on with their strike right now, but their customer service in my experience has been top notch.

I ordered a Cuda Maxx Stilletto and a BK7 from them when I deployed for OIF 1. While deployed, among the rest of the abuse that I heaped on it, I used it to open the trunk of a BMW like a tunafish. Some time spent with a Lansky restored the blade to full function. The BK7 has been used to breach numerous doors and windows and while I'm waiting for it to break, it still hasn't. I'm back in Iraq for OIF 4 and the clip for the Cuda Maxx broke. I managed to contact Ms. Drake and two weeks later I received a pocket clip.

Regards,

Peter

latest word in the paper is-that the camillus wont go back to the table-
sounds like they are buying some time to sell what they can if you ask me-why else wouldnt they at least sit down and talk

word is that camillus customer service, with all the s**t they been going thru, repaired and sent out my dominator this afternoon,ms. drake is an angel and thanks lynn!!!!! i'll report to you all when i get it in my hot hand. it's been tough w/out my edc.

I ordered a replacement sheath for a BK-7 a while back and it took 6 phone calls and several e-mails over the course of 2 weeks just to get information on if the sheath was even in stock! I warned my father but he didn't listen. He ordered a replacement sheath for his Becker 9 and after about 5 phone calls and leaving several messages and even being told at one point "There's no one in customer service today, call back later" he gave up. Too bad they can't get their act together. I just ended up making him a kydex sheath and all is well.

Welcome to BladeForums. Your posting is very informative and will give BF members an insight into the repair procedures at the Camillus factory.

I can heartily second that!!

I sent in my Dominator about two months ago, just before I learned about the strike. I know, I know... I can be a real knucklehead sometimes.

Anyway, I got in touch with Maureen Drake, and explained my worries; she promised that my knife wouldn't disappear anywhere. The strike drug on, and I got more worried; she offered to send my knife back unrepaired. I thought about it for a few days, and sent her an email, taking her up on that offer; she replied yesterday that she'd had a supervisor repair my knife for me, and that it was on its way back home!

Considering what all's going on up there these days, I'm amazed that she went out of her way to take care of me like that. THAT's service!!

I hope that somehow, some way, the good guys make out OK, whatever the banks decide to do. Service like that should be rewarded, not punished. :(
