camo gear cool or not cool

I like the look of it, I just don't want people to think I'm a military/paramilitary wannabe.

Well, there's camo and there's camo. Military camo and hunting camo are two separate animals. I only own the hunting stuff, so if I'm mistaken as a wannabe, it's as a wannabe hunter. :D

You know, come to think of it, I wannabe hunting right now.

Camo is a great idea that has been way over applied. Besides, real gear for hunting looks nothing like the G.I. Joe camo most people associate with the term.

for what ever reason i like camo, i like the geen, tan, black the best. So cast your vote. Camo on gear ( wallets, knives, flashlights etc...) cool or not cool.

My wallet is brown leather, my maglite is black, most of my knives are standard finishes, and I don't really go for camo guns. I do like BDU's, and some of my gear is camo, but it isn't a requirement. I do like blades with black finishes.

Ok guess i'll be returning those camo pants to abercrombie today, and that camo wallet to walmart. The problem is i grew up in jersey and wore the polo shirts and docksiders my whole life;and played golf in pastel .....i need to embrace my inner redneck....on second thought im keeping the pants and the wallet and my real tree camo down vest. Thanks for all the great replys guys:D

Cool, sometimes. BDUs are a great, comfortable, hard-wearing alternative to jeans AND they are very fashionable. I have one pair of woodland & one pair of tri-colour desert, still fairly uncommon over here where alot of folks wear British DPM or Desert. They do make very good shorts, though. Ive got 3 or 4 pairs cut-down into shorts, very comfy & the loose fit helps the air to circulate round "your orchestras"!*

Cool, if you are in the woods, coming from the woods, or going to the woods. Okay, if you are doing hard physical work and don't want to get your good clothes messy\dirty. Uncool, the rest of the time.

I'll second that:thumbup:

The idea of a camo flashlight is stupid because the excessive amount of light coming out of one end kind of makes it stand out (plus, have you ever dropped a camo flashlight in the dark).

Not that I own one... but I would assume the purpose of the camo on a flashlight would be utilized when you weren't using it and were wearing it (in some type of holster).

Personally the only time I wear camo is if I'm playing paintball. Maybe if I hunted I would use it too. I don't really see any need for it in any other non-miltary activities.

Some people enjoy wearing it, but I'm more of a jeans and t-shirt person in most things I do.

Something about Cockney slang? Don't remember for sure, but an ex-girlfirend was over there for awhile and was pretty adept at it...

BTW - I'm looking for a good ripstop Desert pattern type 95(?) field jacket... the one with the two zip-closed chest pockets... Know of any good used outlets I could contact? Or maybe somebody that has one that fits a tall skinny bloke like me and would trade for a mint Benchmade knife? :D
Hey, if I'm gonna look like a wannabe, it might as well be a slightly exotic wannabe!

Camo is cool when it is not from a clothing store, I hate when I see people waring city-fied camo that costs them major $$$, when they could get the real thing for minimal $ at a surplus store, plus, the kind you get at a surplus is tougher and will last longer. People don't make sense sometimes ( it is actually more like most of the time).

Camo has a purpose, and if not being used for that purpose, it is silly. I would prefer drab/khaki BDU pants/shorts, specifically because I could walk around in them without looking like Rambo. As fas a camo accessssories go, I'd prefer all my accessories to be Safety orange, because I can never find anything, anyway.

The man underneath the clothes is way more important than the color or pattern of clothes you wear. I'd rather be a lean, strong healthy man wearing camo than some opinionated fatass dork in khakis or even worse, overalls telling me that it's not cool.

Cammie panties? Not cool. There are some things I want to carry into the woods and stand out against the leaf mold when I drop them, such as my flashlight and Bic lighter.

In the woods, cammies are great but I have very opinionated ideas about how camouflage should be patterned, or not.

Downtown, I dress like everybody else.

Wear BDU's as a reservist for 20 years, the itch will go away.

I only wear hunting camo when hunting now, and that may include old uniforms, but not as daily wear. I've had the camo pens, daytimers, hankerchiefs, and junk. Experience will tell you that it is usually a mark of low quality in most applications, unless issue or offered with an NSN.

The new accupat looks nice on the street, but doesn't work in my local environment. So I am saved from getting on that bandwagon.

"Downtown, I dress like everybody else." Yes, this is being camo'd for the environment - being the grey man.

Joeshredd, Im not very knowledgable about the Combat 95/Soldier 95 kit, but Silvermans in London is one of the biggest Army Surplus places in the UK, theyd probably have what youre looking for.
I believe the Desert SAS smocks are very popular.

Yup, paintball has been my only excuse for cammo in the last 20 years. As for other gear, I lose enough stuff without making it hide on purpose. In fact, I make fobs out of neon color cord to make things I drop easier to find.
