A.G Russell canadian belt knife or the trout and bird. They are both great knives they stay sharp when dressing game and a great knife to learn on i have both styles and both work well. it might be over 60$ buy 4 or 5 bucks but it beats buying a 15 dollar knife and say here try that kid. They are both efficent camp knives also. The handle you eather like or hate but eventually grow to love.

Tops makes some smaller fixed blades that are tough and have a nice cool factor. The Wolf Pup comes to mind.

If you want to get him a Tops, but don't want to pay the price check CDNN. I picked up The Browning/Tops X-4 a while back. It's a very sturdy, well made knife, with a nice sheath. Plus it has some cool factor also.
